If You Were Closed Valentines Week Would You Just Skip It?

I am on vacation all of Valentines week. If I did celebrate with the kids I would have to do it the Wednesday of the week before (which is 8 days before the actual holiday.) I was thinking we'd still do the crafts leading up to it but I'd just skip the treats/Valentine exchange/party.

    What would you do?

Me personally? I don't do any type of make-up celebration for any holiday in which I am closed...with the exception of Christmas. We do a Christmas party the last day I am open before break.

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day at all with DCKs. Never ever have.

I really despise commercial type money making holidays.

I also believe that Valentine's Day is a holiday for lovers and that just doesn't jive with daycare.

        Skip for sure.

All I do is Valentines exchanging, a craft & a special snack during the day. That week parents night out is scheduled for 2/16, the Saturday following V-day and we will be making a craft and eating pink cupcakes & drinking pink punch.

I am open on Valentine's Day and I am skipping it. Just another holiday when I make a huge effort and no one even says thanks. Nope...skipping it for sure!!!!!

If I am off for a minor holiday then we wouldn't do anything for it and I wouldn't think twice.
If I am open I DO like to have something as I like the change in routine - I think celebrating holidays add a little excitement to my typically mundane life. That said, I do what works for ME - so for Valentines day we are not having a party - but we will have a card exchange in the PM and special snack. I make it clear to parents that we are not having a party, and it's card only - no treats, gifts, etc.

That is probably what I would do too if I were closed that week.

The smaller holidays are more fun for me then the bigger ones sometimes. Last year I bought two dozen heart shaped balloons and tied them to the chairs while the children were napping. The looks on their faces when they woke up and saw them was one of my favorite moments of the whole year. I also do a big pot of gold hunt on St. Patrick's day.
