    Help Starting A Daycare....

    Hello everyone,
    My name is Erin and I am trying to start my own daycare. I am currently finishing my teaching degree for k-6 and a minor in Special Education. I actually just have my student teaching left one I pass this darn Praxis... And for my current job I work with adults with severe disabilities, mental and physical. I have been in this field for 8 years now. I have a 16 month old and another baby on the way, so my husband and I thought this was the best thing for us at this time. I was wondering if anyone knew of the stipulations for getting licensed in Delaware and Pa are. Like how many children do I need to have to get licensed?? We were thinking while we are looking to buy a new house in PA if I watch two children that are not my own until we finally move into our house and renovate it... Anyone know if having two children of my own and two children that are not my own is to much?? Thank you so much..

      This is me with a mom hat on. PLEASE do not wait too long to get your first teaching job. You worked hard to get that degree. The longer you wait the harder it will be to get that first job. And then to keep up your certification don't you need to be teaching ???

      I love my job as as family childcare provider but I pay self employment taxes, I do not get summers off, I have to pay my own retirement, health ins
      It:: will wait

        PP is right. If you wait to get that first job, you will have a very hard time ever getting a teaching job. The benefits of a teaching job are great, and once you have some experience under your belt, it is easier to get another job later.

          Yes, however working as a teacher and paying for two children in childcare would be very difficult. Where I live, first year teachers make $32,000 a year. With taxes taken out that would be $2000 ish (if there is no insurance taken out). For two children in mid range daycare it would be $1200. So she would be taking an outside job, and away from her babies all day for $800.00 a month take home.

          *I estimated assuming that she would be taking pay 12 months out of the year, and not 9/10.

          Trust me, I understand what you all are saying - but I can see why she wouldn't get a teaching job right now.
