    Half Day Rates

I know a lot of people on here hate when you ask what others rates are but I am wondering what you charge for half day rates? I have a family that is looking for 2 days a week for 3 hours each day for 2 boys who are 2 and 4. I normally only watch full time kids but right now things are slow in my area.

    Thank you so much!!!

They are taking up a slot from you so I would charge the full rate. If you don't feel comfy with that then I'd charge an hourly rate. $8-10 per hour?

what I do is take my part time rate and break it down by the hour. I charge more for part time rates that full time.

I then take the part time hourly rate x by the number of hours and that becomes their set weekly rate that they have to pay if they are present or not.

Sometimes I will even up the hourly rate a bit. I need to make sure that I am covering all of my costs.

I offer half-day rates as a regular option but it must be in a contract. I charge about 70% of the daily rate and they can come up to 4 or 4.5 hours per day and the days must be set so I can try to fill the other spots.......if I want, but typically don't because I enjoy the busy and less busy days throughout the week.

I offer rates broken down by the day from 2-5 days a week. Each less day they attend the more the rate is. So for example: My full time rate is my five day rate. If someone wants just two days a week they pay for 2.5 days total which is half my full time rate. Then if they want only a half-day on those days I charge about 70%-75% or so depending on the dollar amount. I like to round numbers up to even amounts but keep it fair.

HERE IS AN EASY TO UNDERSTAND EXAMPLE I WILL SHARE:
If full time is 100/week, then 2 full days is 50/week. If they only want half-days those two days then it's (70% in this case works out well) 35/week per child.

4.5 hours each day x two days is 9 hours total (they don't need nine hours, but this is how i do it to be fair to everyone). The hourly "breakdown" is 3.89 per hour per child. For both children it would be $70 for both part-time days.

If you look at your hourly rate for full time children at 45 hours a week and 100/week you're earning 2.22 per child. See how it's fair yet you're paid more? These dollar amounts were purely for example, not my rates, but it is my personal way to do things fairly and it's worked great.

The only thing you need to decide is do you want TWO SPOTS filled by this very part time schedule? If you're a larger daycare like mine and have helpers with you then it doesn't affect you much, but if you only have so-many spots to fill then you might want to think of what will happen in the future. Maybe have a slightly higher rate and see if they agree like simply "All my rates are full time, but I'm willing to cut that in half since you have two children to $100/week total instead of each, but full time enrollments may make you lose your spot".......whatever is legal on that end! I've never told my parttimers that full time can take their spot because I enjoy having some part time to mix up the week.

I have done this in the past and I charge $5/hour per child if they need less than 4 hours for the day. Anything over that is my full time rate of $40/day. I have had several moms in college just needing a few hours in the AM. It worked for me, because the kids were picked up by the time the S/A kids got home and needed the slot. It was just extra $ for me on those days.

I offer half days to currently enrolled families only.

Half day rates are offered in two blocks of time.

Neither include lunch or nap time.

The first block of time is 7:30-11:00 and the second is 2:00-5:30.

My regular daily rate is $30 per day. The half days are offered at $20 per block.

If I had a family call looking for the hours you posted, I would bill them at a full day rate with a 3 day minimum.

I don't offer 1/2 day rates because it's so difficult to fill the other portion of the day, but if I did I would definately tell the person that they're getting a break and if a full day person comes along then they may lose their spot.
