Nothing Gets Through To This Little Boy!

    Unteachable 2 yr old.
I've had a little boy since he was 11 months old. He's now 2.5 and I cannot get anything through to him. He lays on the other kids even though they cry. He just laughs. He torment my cats and has been getting scratched on a weekly basis. He just doesn't get it! He pokes and prods at the other kids all the time. I've told him not to do these things a thousand times and he just keeps repeating it. He's worth double the money I get for him.. His dad is not the brightest bulb and Mom babies him when he really need to be reprimanded. How many time outs can this child get?? I'm pooped!!!

I have noticed that with children like this I need to be proactive. So they are my shadow at all times. If I'm making lunch they are at the table with a toy. If I'm changing a diaper they are right next to me handing me the wipes. When I have to use the bathroom they are (depending on age/ability) with me, right outside the door, or at the table/high chair while I go. It typically does not take too long for the children to understand that having to be with me = boring
However if after a few weeks of this there wasn't an improvment, or I backed off only to have the same behaviors then it would be time to let the family go.

      great advice play care..

YEs you need to be proactive, not reactive......stop it before it starts.

Is it possible to keep the cat where he cant touch it?

Implement a NO touching rule, you may NOT touch the other kids.

When he does, he has to play in a small space of his own where he can not hurt anyone, including himself.

I will say...I will not let you hurt our friends and then remove them from the area to a new one to redirect their attention. I try to not give them any attention at all by doing this. Sometimes if I can, I will move the group away from him instead.

One last thing to try is do you have a thinking mat??
