we are doing a polar theme and having a blast with it....not sure what your kids age groups are but here are few things we have already done..

feed the penguin... too a cereal box, cut a small hole in it. The glued on a pic of a penguin lining up the mouth of the penguin over the hole. We also have a large foam dice that we roll which will tell us how many goldfish to feed him. I bought the real snack ones.

We made paper tissue snow flake "process art" collages.

We have watched videos on polar animals and have read books about the arctic too.

we have also taken out our maps, located the arctic and talked about why it's so cold there.

science, we took water in a jar and froze it. The melted it in the sun, then froze it again......

We have tons planned.... we did the penguin pokey, have you seen my missing mitten (kids love this one) and snow snow go away....

I have most of my theme stuff pinned in pintrest. I'm pretty sure you can view them even if you aren't on pintrest.

        I'm a Pinterest nut, too.

http://pinterest.com/pin/74661306294136365/ (we used a variety of empty white containers and decorated them as snowmen. The kids bowl with them, play house and other games.

I've also filled our sensory bin with random mittens, hats and scarves. The kids love trying to put them on and it helps teach self help skills. Some kids match their mittens, some don't but they all love this activity.

I'm not a FB fan either but with the way things are going I may have to join so that I may look at certain things of interest.

You don't need FB to have an account on Interest. You can use Pinterest through FB but you don't have to, I don't. You need to be invited to Pinterest to join but it's easy and anyone can invite you. Don't bother requesting an invite from Pinterest directly, they never come .

If anyone wants an invite, pm me with an email address and I'll send you one.

Wow, forgive me, but I'm oldschool, not on pinterest or facebook. For snowmen, I had the children paint a colourful picture and we added snowmen. I cut egg cartons so there were 3 bumps (4 snowmen from 1 egg carton) and had the children paint that white. I cut out black hats and arms and we stuck them on with googly eyes and the children coloured the buttons on the snowmen.

Also, I took clothespins and we glued on 3 pompoms, eyes, arms to make tiny snowmen and we brought in a big bowl of snow last week to learn about the science of snow, making a tiny snowman before naptime and observing that it had melted into water after naptime, etc. I taught them about solids and liquids.

Crafts and activities are a big part of curriculum

In my preschool curriculum class we made community lamps with chicken-wire and a simple battery tea light (you can get them at the dollar store or walmart) every group picked a subject and our group picked to do a "community harvest tree" (autumn themed- other themes included planets, colors and animals) and you can use stuff you have laying around (pipe cleaners, pom-poms, stickers....) or things you can find outside (i.e. leaves, pine cones, sticks...) then we took pictures of each other participating and typed up a poster to document what we did, the process; what colors, words, values, or anything that children would learn from this project. I plan on doing one for every season (possibly every month) for my future preshool.
