Parents Have To Pay To Hold Their Slot!

Have any of you had a problem with a parent not wanting to pay their weekly rate because their child didn't attend??? I opened back up this week on the 2nd because of the holiday. Anyway one of my dcbs hadn't been here the past 3 days, and his mom think she shouldn't have to pay. ummmm what part of you are paying to hold your spot don't some people understand:confused::confused:
We just had this conversation about a month ago when he only attended one day out of a week. Her only comment is "O I didn't know". How do someone not know when I interview I sit down and go over the contract with them before they agree to sign up, give them a copy of the contract with the payment requirements highlighted.

If there is one thing I cannot stand is when someone has been here for a length of time and will ask me questions that they should already know.

Like the DCM that has been here for over a year asked me the other day what is my weekly rate????? WTH really.....you get an invoice every month why are you asking me this.

or can you give my kid some over the counter meds. NOoooooooooooooo....you know I can't and won't do this...

What does work for me sometimes is putting small reminders out in the news letters at the start of each month. OR I will make a huge posting at the sign in and out log book stating.....XYZ.

I think sometimes the parents feel silly when I do that and then don't do it again.......

Oh yea, I've been there. I had one dcd that tried to had me my payment and it was two days short because his dcd was spending those two days with her mom the next week. I had to call him and tell him that payment was the same regardless of absenteeism, per my contract that he signed. He said the same thing, "Oh, I didn't know." Well, whatever...now you know.

I think this is parent's way of "playing dumb" in hopes that we will make an exception for them. I hate it - it is so passive aggressive! But yet, it happens day in and day out.

People will try to take advantage in any way they can...so annoying!!!!

they do it hoping for a different answer.... this is why I made sure that I memorized all of my rules front and back....I never give a wrong answer to them and always reply the same way.....

If I am doubtful of something, I say.....let me get back to you on that......... that is the famous line needed in this business....

Have them sign every section of your handbook outlining every single policy, agreeing that they understand each and every single policy!
Then when they say something like "Oh, I didn't know" you can pull out your handbook and SHOW THEM that they signed it agreeing they understood and would comply. It won't happen again after that

I always give the same answer too. I have even given her at least 2 more copies of her signed contract to back up my policies!

ugh one of those....I have one too....I feel for you......they always ask the same questions over and over hoping that I will give a different response...

Last week I made a DCM mad when she asked me a question about a policy that has been in place for the entire 2 years they have been here.. I said I think you need to go and re read our PHB, seems like you have forgotten several of our DC policies..... For your convenience it is on our DC website.......she was not too happy, but I got sick of this mom constantly doing this when she knows my rules.....NOTHING has changed......

With this particular parent the first time, I pulled it out and showed it to her because I gave her a copy when she registered. The other time I made her another copy and told her to please read it again, well I guess she didn't read it herself, so this time I made her another copy highlited my policies in red! Maybe that will help her out!

Yes one of those, and it may not never changed, because he is never here! My policy is gonna stay the same, she can either bring him, keep paying me for his spot or take him out!

I once had a DCM that did this not only with payment but also with with pretty much every other policy that I had in my handbook.... but payments were the worst!! And really she was the reason that I created a handbook in the first place. When I first passed out the handbooks I gave everyone 2 weeks to read and decide whether they'd renew or cancel their contracts. I thought for sure she'd say "See ya!" but she didn't.

Even after signing she continued to do her own thing and I kept reminding her of the policies. She'd always use some excuse ... I've heard them all. "I didn't know", "I don't remember reading that part", "that part was confusing", "I thought that meant ...", "The font is too small to read, it hurts my eyes".

After repeatedly reminding her I finally just sat down with her with a freshly printed out handbook in SIZE 14 font and went through the entire thing paragraph to paragraph and this was my final warning. She was ok after that. She barely skated by after that but never did anything to directly break a policy. Why does it seem like some clients need to have their hand held more than their children ::.

ahhahah that is funny MV If I printed out my PHB in that size font it would be 100 pages long.....

I have two items that I pass out. I have the PHB that states rules with reason. then I have the short version that is numbered and very easy to read together that I have them initial it as we go. I then make copies of both and give them a really cute little folder that I made and hand them all of the copies of everything and anything that they have ever signed in my care. It's up to them to keep it in there. Their folders should look just like mine if the do keep it all together.

surprisingly enough, I had a family come in with their folder complete just like mine and had some questions... I was so impressed I wanted to hug them
