    On the subject of potty training!

    I have a child that has been pt for several months now but tells me about every 20 min or so they have to go. The thing is sometimes they are actually going. This has been since the beginning of the training so I'm wondering if this is how parents did it or if they just aren't emptying their bladder? Then I'm wondering if since they were excited to be pt if they just want to go in their just to go?

    I try to make it longer between trips but since they actually sometimes do go, I wonder about the wetting. Would you take the chance or just do the 20 min. times.

    are they still getting treats for going? if so stop the treats. and for me if a child has to go I say go. Do you take the child or just send them. I send them then follow behind to make sure they wash. I put it i their hands to take care of it.

    Could be the child is just afraid to have an accident or it can be a sign if a UTI no pain ???
    It:: will wait

      Child never had treats for going here and I parents didn't do the treats either. I send in but go quickly behind do to child will have a whole roll of tp off if you don't.

      Child isn't in pain when going. That is why I'm not sure if they just find it fun to go in there and maybe don't empty bladder the full way so they can go back.

        To rule out the possibilty that she/he is just doing for one on one attention , try giving more one on one special attention during non potty time through out the day. And see if after a few days of doing this, the potty times slowly start spreading out. Im not saying he isnt getting enough regular attention. I just know when my own kids atart doing anything silly or slightly naughty /repetative/ etc... A little too often , then I increase the individual attention they get and they don't feel like they want to try to get attention in other ways.
        I also did the reverse too, to GET my dd pt'd when I did the one day method with her (didnt do childcare then) . I decreased the attention I gave her so when I spent all day long focusing on the potty/eating&drinking snacks she was all into it and very involved. By the end of the day she was going potty all by herself and everything, including dumping the urine out of the potty into the big toilet. After the first few days, I slowly decreased the attention and praise I gave for it, while still showing her I still expected her to keep going on her own.
