I dont personally hold spots at any discount. I cant afford to do that.

but it does seem that the majority of providers here will hold spots for a 1/2 rate. sometimes they will still allow kids to come for up to half the time too.

Here is what I have in my contract for extended absences. However, for teachers families, I require 2 paid days per week during the summer months to hold their child's spot and of course, the child may attend those two days.

      Extended Absences

Families will sometimes need an extended leave from full time childcare. I consider an extended absence to be one of longer than three weeks in duration.
Examples of this would be maternity leave, extended illness or a layoff from work. If your family needs to request an extended absence, a two week notice is required and your fees will remain at full rate until the beginning of the extended absence.
To guarantee an opening for your child during extended absences, a fee of one-half of
the regular weekly fee will be charged. This fee guarantees a spot for your child when the
extended absence is over. You may choose to have your child attend child care during
this time for up to one-half of the regular schedule. The days and times will be agreed upon by myself and the family and require a two week notice of any changes or if your
family decides to leave my childcare. The paid two week notice is at your full-time rate, not your extended absence rate of one-half the fees. An interim child care contract will be written in the event of an extended absences detailing the terms of agreement and scheduled days of attendance.

      I hope this helps!

It depends how your area is...

I always charged a flat fee -- a NON-refundable deposit of 1-2 weeks, depending on the length of the absence. So an 8wk maternity leave would be $150, and a 4month summer off would be $300. This is a deposit ONLY, any extra days needed for care would be at the drop in rate of $35/day.

None of the teachers that I know would pay half rate through their summers off. They would put in their 2 weeks notice and hope for the best come fall. But paying for unnecessary daycare is not the norm. Even for teachers that sent their kids to centers...they would just give notice, and re-enroll come fall. Paying the enrollment fee again is much cheaper than paying daycare all summer.
