    Should I Be Worried?

My dcd has a whirly toy, like what you would get at the circus or buy at a sporting event. It looks like a microphone and when you push a button, it spins with lights and vibrates. So she is standing in front of my son and I and we are watching tv. She takes the toy and puts it in between her legs. My son (age 10) and I look at each other crazily and I say, "Hey...what are you doing." She replies,"it feels good." I tell her how this isn't appropriate and this is a toy. I ask her more questions like...have you seen someone else doing this? Did someone do this do you? I tried to act like it was no big deal, but it really freaked me out! I mean, how did she even get it in her head that that would feel good if she put the toy there? Am I over-reacting? Or should I be freaked out? She is 5, super outgoing and I've always tried to be really honest about genitalia and we've had many talks about what is appropriate alone is not appropriate around others. Also that no one should ever touch her on her genitals and so on...My other kids never displayed this kind of behavior..Does anyone have experience with this?

you are over reacting IMO. I am glad that you talked to her just to double check but you need to be very careful about having conversations about her private parts and other subjects. the best thing to do is to approach her parents with what you saw and your concerns and let them have that discussion. I know you meant well but as a parent, I would want the daycare provider to let me know if they have any concerns and let me approach this type of discussion in the way I felt was appropriate. If you are licensed, it is always best to document anything you see and take the proper channels to address it as regulations dictate. but for me, this type of thing is not worrisome. kids are curious. even masturbation or doing things that feel good to them is not abnormal at all.

100% normal. I would speak with parents (over email so it is in writing) but remind them that it is age appropriate and normal.

I get the feeling the OP is speaking about her own daughter, not a daycare child.

Two of my girls did discover that things "felt good" at pretty young ages, and I know no one did anything to them. Not sure why some notice early on, and others don't or if some kids are just more open about it and don't feel the need to hide it.
After several talks with one of my dds about putting her hands in her pants in the living room, I finally told her she could do that in her bedroom ALONE, but other people do not want to see that. Not long after this talk, she announced, "I am going to my room...and I want to be ALONE!!!"
          Oh, my.

Yicks! I know this is normal but it's still the worst conversation ever to have with a dck. I just curtly tell then do that at home not at my house. And leave it at that, haven't had any repeat offenders thank God!

This is my post and yes this is my daughter. This was not in front of dck, it was after hours, although we did have some issues with same age sexual curiosity last year last and had to have talks about this as well. I couldn't leave the room for two seconds.....but it stopped soon after. Sigh....

Don't even worry about it, wait til they start talking about sex ed. in school! Mine are 9 & 10 and they just got done some lesson on stranger danger and bad touches, etc.... we were at our families christmas party the other weekend and my 9yr old son asked my 21yr old cousins girlfriend if she wanted to have sex with him (with my son) she took it pretty good and laughed it off but when I talked to him about it he didn't even know what he was asking her, and yes he pretty much did this in front of everyone!!! She was pretty hot so at least he has good taste!
