    Need Help Right Now!!

nothing serious but its a decorating question. So I now have a huge blank wall, but I need to put the toys somewhere. (its my toy room I'm remodeling it) my problem is that all the bigger toys where on shelves, but the problem is that it always looked messy.

so if you have a huge wall, what should I use to store the toys. Do you think shelves screwed to the wall or do I buy cabinets with doors on it.

I would buy good quality bookshelves. I actually have 6 bookshelves that you can collapse. The shelves fold up and the sides fold in. I love them because if I'm not using them at a certain time, I fold them up and can store in the garage so easily. Also, a few of them break into two and make 3 shelve bookshelves.

I wouldn't buy cabinets or drawers unless it was to store toys and supplies that you didn't want played with. Developmentally children need to be able to see their choices otherwise it's like not having those toys as choices. "Out of sight, out of mind".

I would use low shelves or clear bins/drawers that the children could see through and see what was inside or you can take photos of what you are storing and place those on the outside of your drawers/cabinet etc. It should be low cabinets/drawers if you go this route.

This is a store we have in the Northwest but I bet you could order and have them shipped to you. Believe me its well worth the money! Love, love, love them!

Staples use to carry them but I didn't see them on their website.

            Wow, those look great!

I looked at some of those at The Container Store here also, when I moved my son to college.

I've got three, three shelf book cases lining one of my walls. I think I paid maybe $15 each for them? They're heavy though, and not tall so I don't have to worry about them toppling over. Best part is they are completely accessible.

If they look messy you could maybe teach your kiddos to organize them better with labels. I used picture labels as my group is younger, but once they caught on they knew by heart instruments go in the top left cubby, tractors go in the middle bottom cubby, computers go in the top right cubby etc.

I saw it became like a fun game of memory so I'll switch them up every once in awhile which makes pick up time not to blah.

I wanted the cubes but they were a bit too pricey for what my budget allowed at the time.

I had plastic shelves (heavy duty) but no matter how many times I told them to put them away where they belong, I had kids who would throw them on the shelf. I need to have some control over what comes out and onto the floor.

I have the plastic drawers and over the years the shelves sink and are hard to open. Crazy how hard it is to organize toys.

I built bookshelves. They probably cost me around $40-50 each (4x4) but they are solid wood and especially with them anchored, they are very sturdy. They also look neat/organized. The top shelf has things they need to ask for (playdoh, markers, smaller piece puzzles) in colored bins labeled with a photo. The bottom shelf is for larger items, dollhouses, little people cars, etc and the middle shelf is all photo labeled plastic bins with handles on each side that I got at Michael's. Block shelf has blocks in each bin, and large cardboard blocks on the bottom, so that further organizes each toy/shelf into a category.
