DCD dropped off his check this morning (we have a payment box), and texted around 10:00 to say he wasn't sure how to make it out for the holidays, so according to our contract he thinks it was right - but let him know if it needs to be changed. I go get the check and it is one day short (DCB comes two days a week). Per our contract we are closed Dec 24-26 for Christmas and have 5 paid vacation days a year, which we take between Christmas & New Years. Also I noted that these days are paid on the hOliday calendar we passed out on October.
So we will be closed both days that DCB comes next week, so I was confused how DCD took one day's pay off - but only one - which was he paying/not paying for ? So when he comes in, we asked what his thought process was - and he said well next Tuesday is Christmas so that is a paid holiday in the contract - but on Thursday you are just closed, so I didn't include payment for that. So we told him, well that is our vacation. Then he said "so I am paying you extra ?". Now keep in mind his tone was respectful. But no - not extra - just the same as you always pay. I don't think he understood, although he wrote a new check. I just hate when parents do that, I feel like that is where daycares get this big bad daycare reputation, when people just don't fully understand what they are paying for .
I know not everyone agrees with paid vacation, but it is in our contract.
I know this is no new complaint, but the reason we have policies, handbooks, and contracts is to avoid this, and not have to deal with the complication or confrontation. I Thought about copying the page from the policies, just so they can understand and don't feel like we are taking "extra" money.
