    Help Me Spend $1000

    I have $1000 to invest in the daycare. I am looking for wood toys, wicker baskets, "natural" type stuff, light table toys, etc. If you had $1000 to spend, what would you buy? Thinking Montessori, Reggio, Waldorf - if you have links to favorite sites, please share!

        You can never go wrong with blocks.

        I had many ECE/CD teachers (big supporters of Reggio style curriculum) who said "If there was just one toy you could buy for your program that was educational- weighted (slightly but not too heavy and not hollow) wooden unit blocks are the best" because they work on every domain- Social, Physical, Intellegence/Cognitive, Creative and Emotional (S.P.I.C.E.) and they are the foundations of learning math, balance, and spacial awareness (just to name a few). One of my teachers said that a good ECE program should have at least a set of about 28-30 blocks per child in the program. so if you had a LFCC (about 14 children) and needed 30 blocks per child at a time you would need about 420 blocks! And you can use different sizes and shapes. Blocks are open-ended materials that have no limit. They say focus on the bare neutrual wooden colored blocks and NOT the ones that are painted with letters- it distracts from the interation and construction.

          I want this

          One of my clients work for Brodart and can get me anything they sell at cost. Sometimes He brings items to me for free if they were ordered by mistake or used for a few demos and no longer needed. I received two locker systems this way. I'm very fortunate and really appreciate the perk of knowing him, .

            If I could I would buy a very large set of unit blocks. I have alot but never enough of the big ones.

            magna tiles rate up there also. but the unit blocks will last years longer than the magna tiles.
            It:: will wait

              Oh, I see I will probably go over my $1000

              I have tons of unit blocks....got a great deal last year at this time....the Melissa and Doug blocks that are reg. $60 were on clearance at Sam's club for $10 and I bought 15 boxes. I have a wall full of blocks and I agree, BEST INVESTMENT EVER!

              Looking at the other stuff now. Thanks!
