Part of TEACH grant requirements was that I filled out and applied for FAFSA first. The TEACH grant paid for (up to a specific amount) costs I had AFTER any financial aid was applied first.

I also did my entire degree on-line with the exception of interning. I did that through my local ECFE department and a local elementary school in their kindergarten class.

I have my Associates in applied science: child development and my CDA, I earned my CDA first, just because the CDA class was a class I could take to fulfill requirements for the Associates and at the time I worked in a center and would get a raise for the CDA. I have to agree, online classes are the best, as long as you can discipline yourself to "go to class" at home! I even took speech online...

Awesome! I just wonder if I should go for CDA or go straight for Associate's?

It's been a while since I have taken any classes and I am in a different state, but I wonder if a CDA would be beneficial since you will be getting an Associates. I know in MI an associates degree overrides the CDA in a sense so would it be worth getting a CDA? KWIM? I hope I'm making sense! Personally I like having a CDA, it makes me feel more accomplished in this field.

Personally, I would do as Melilley said and take the CDA courses because most of them are courses that are required for the associate's degree. Then if something should happen that you were unable to finish school then atleast you would have the CDA part covered.

If you are finding that the CDA coursework is NOT applicable or countable for your associate's degree, I would just work towards the degree and not worry about the CDA part.

To me the CDA is like a driver's permit. First you get the permit (CDA)then you get the provisional license (Associate's degree) and then your regular driver's license (Bachelor's degree). The information for each one is useful and necessary but each one is only a step forward.

Hope that analogy makes sense and helps. I would also call whatever school you are going to choose to go through and talk with an advisor in the ECE department.

They are usually so unbelieveable helpful and will pretty much walk you through every single step of the way. My advisor was fantastic...plus helping students (both current and potential) muddle through this stuff is their job so they are happy to help!

Here is an example of the course outlines for a certifcate, diploma and/or degree at my local community college so you can get a general idea of what I mean.

See how each section is just a lttle bit more coursework and/or classes?

From what I understand the college that I am enrolled in (and they might all be different) has you video record the lessons and send them to the ECE department and I think they are posted for classmates and instructors for comments etc.

I am not this far. I'm at the end of my first semester. happyface
