I see my county on this list, however, i still have not heard a thing about it.

Should I be concerned that my county is on this list?

I wouldn't be concerned. This is still all completely voluntary and there isn't going to be any scores published publicly any time soon. I would reach out to the contact for your county and let them know you would like additional information and find out how you can get involved if you are interested. I recommend getting involved now, so when it does roll out statewide in a few years, you will already be a t a four or five

Awesome. Thanks so much for the info Crystal.

I for one am mostly positive about the program and at least for the educational requirements for it. Mostly is sounds like a positive change.

I just called. Now just waiting for a response. I hope I can hop on board so I can decide whether I like the program or not :-)

Crystal has your pilot program for FCC started already?

I got in contact with the program lead of the QRIS program and she said that there isn't any information for FCC right now and that the pilot program that they are starting is for centers only. By the sound of it I think that only top notch centers are testing the pilot program which doesn't make sense to me because you would think that they'd want all types of centers to test it out to see how it would work for them.

I was told that for FCC the pilot program wouldn't start until the summer after they tested it on centers and figured out if it will work or not. It didn't sound like they were at all even sure how the pilot program will work or what the rating scale will be based on. She did say that it would be a 5 tier rating scale which will include education, environment, experience, safety and child interaction but they still aren't sure how specifically they are going to rate them, what the guidelines are going to be or anything like that.

Just wondering if you guys in Sacramento have started the pilot for FCC since I know that each area will be handling and creating their own rating scale.

Washington also won Race to the Top money and is implementing QRIS. They are begging providers to join. Most of us refuse. Family providers will rarely get a rating higher than a 3. It takes several years to complete the requirements. The contract requires we return any money received if we leave the business, etc., etc., etc. Please read the information carefully and make sure you know this is indeed good for you before you sign up.

They will be rolling it out in the next couple of weeks, I believe. They will be implementing it in both FCC and Centers at the same time.

It will be different for every county. So, it sounds like your county is waiting on FCC, but that does not sound very realistic, especially if they WANT FCCP to get involved.

That's what I was thinking too. And I didn't like that only top notch centers were on the pilot program now. I would think that they'd want unbiased results and feedback so they'd want all quality types of centers. It sounded to me like they wanted good results and maybe opinions so they chose (and they were all chosen, the centers were all picked and invited to do the pilot program not an open volunteer situation where just any center could join) programs that they knew would do well like the naval base daycare center, a daycare center that does the RIE program, a couple of montesouri centers etc. I also noticed that the centers were located in wealthier and larger cities in my county. If all the top centers are on the program it'll be easier for them to score higher and the feedback will be positive.

I was told that a pilot program for FCC would "maybe" be started "probably" in the summer. I'm afraid that when they do start the FCC pilot program that they'll do the same and only invite providers that already have masters degrees (like teachers that have retired and started FCC), FCC with pre school curriculum and high quality programs. I kept telling her numerous times to keep me in mind and that I wanted to participate in the pilot program and although she thanked me for my interest it didnt sound like she was serious about it. I guess I'll just have to keep hounding her.
