I originally did not have New Year's Eve as a closed day included in my vacation but have collected schedules from parents now for December and only one family needs me so I decided I am closing as this family has great, willing and free back up so I am taking the day off but am NOT charging for it.

I do have New Year's Day off as a paid holiday.

I give out my days off list at the start of each year. I totally forgot to include the new year holiday.

I think I will see if 3 or more families need care and if so, then I will do a half day on Monday, 31st.

Guess I better get this taken care of now...

I give out my closed days calendar at the beginning of the year as well but sometimes things happen where only one or two kids need me and if they have good back up and I am not putting anyone out, I close and get an extra day off that I hadn't planned on.

If I were you, I would check now and see how many families REALLY need you for work and you might just find that you have the day off.

Closed and paid for New Year's Day. Open until 3pm on New Year's Eve. I only take Christmas Eve, Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year's Day as paid holidays because I usually don't have children (or I end up with very few) the day days in between... and I want to save my two weeks paid vacation for other times of the year

SO I did exactly what you said.

All of the families were way cool with me closing both days. All but 1. I am so mad right now I am shaking..

This family has no back-up care and trys to make it my problem. Well it's not my problem and I am sorry you can't take anymore time off of work. What are you going to do when your child is in school next year and they close?

I am not backing down either...

I get both days off and paid but I will probably be the only one that will not be closed (personal choice). We aren't going anywhere so it's a regular week for me. I don't feel like I need to close and I feel lonely when my DCK's aren't here and my DH doesn't have the day off either .

Sometimes it isn't worth being open all day for only one child and I make it clear to my DCP's that I am NOT willing to back down either just because they don't have reliable back up.

Open New Year Eve, we always have an overnight kids party and the parents pick up by 11am then I close for the rest of the day New Years paid.
                              I see little people.

I am closing at 4pm on New Years eve and closed new years day..

Now I'm wondering if I should change it to both paid with the new handbook..
