My kids all have individual washcloths hanging in the kitchen, and we have a kid-height mirror. It's part of our routine that after meals, they wipe their own hands and face. I bet he'd like a chance to take control of the process. (I often finish up for a younger child, but he might not mind that as much. It helps, I find, to do that in front of the mirror, too, as in "oh, look, right here, there's some yogurt on your nose!" with a giggle.)

My child is 2 and still hates having her face wiped. She's fine if I hold her over the sink, and she will try to wipe her face herself.

To the point he screams, scratches, kicks me. Now I am talking about a quick nose wipe or wiping hands and face after a snack or meal. I thought he would get used to it but he just seems to be getting louder and screaming more.

Now when the mom brings this boy in the morning he has cereal stuck all over his face. Dried on. She told me he freaks out the same with her wiping his face. So i leave it til the first snack and then wipe him then. But because she let it dry on his face then I have to really scrub to get it off. So the poor kids this morning had a scratch where the cereal came off. I always make sure my kids are clean. It really bugs me she just leaves it on him like that. If she would wipe his face all the time then he probably wouldn't be freaking out when it was wiped. I can't have him get snot and food all over the house while he is here. So I have to wipe it. What would you do?

          Thanks Lorna
Almost every kid I have ever had hates having their faces wiped when they first start, but they get used to it.

I do not allow children to come in my home dirty - all faces, hands and clothing must be clean. When a child comes in with a sticky or dirty face (or hands) I pass the parent a pack of wipes to clean them up. Not my job. I wouldn't leave a dck dirty until pick up because they were crying/screaming so why the hell would a parent think it's ok? Geez.
