    Feeling like the Grinch!

We have had our center open for 6 years now. .Every year we have a holiday party. Last year we threw a pretty lavish party. Nearly everyone came. It.was nice, but expensive and stressful. We have had .a tough year personally (fine or better than usual professionally).
My husband lost his mom this year, and the chaos that resulted from her passing in his family and our own family has been a strain on him, me and or children. I just don't feel like having a party. Our clients kind of expect it ,.some have asked about it already.I love our families and I feel bad canceling, but our hearts are not in it. Should I do the party anyways?

First off.... big ((((HUGS)))) to both you and your DH!!!

Secondly, if I were in your shoes, I would explain to the DCP's that having a lavish party like last year is just not in the budget but that you would still be having a smaller celebration and then I would ask parents to donate items for the party.

After all, Christmas is all about giving and showing the ones you love how much you love and appreciate them. Children (and adults) do NOT need big lavish parties or gifts to be shown love.

I also think this is a wonderful opportunity to teach the kids about the spirit of giving and how even as a child, Christmas is not about "getting". kwim?

Agree with what Blackcat said. Maybe you could send out a note saying that you'd be glad to make your DC space available if anyone else would like to organize and host the party. You could say you'll provide the space and the beverages (or something cheap) and take volunteers to organize (and PAY FOR!!) the rest. Just state that this has been a difficult year emotionally and financially, and you need a little help if the party is to happen this year. Best of luck to you!

Thanks BC and Lucy..I just don't have it in me. It's not so much the cost of the party, it's the time and energy. And mostly, my lack of holiday spirit.
As if on cue, the Grinch is on TV right now. Lol.
Maybe just a small party......I dunno.
