Emergency Appendectomy and a Week Closure

On Thursday I thought I had the stomach flu. Took some gravol and opened for the day. Went on through the day no vomiting or diarehha (sp) but as 4 pm rolled around I was in so much pain I could not stand up, so I called all the parents to come get their kids. No one showed up until 5:30pm.

I decided to go the hospital in town, They said it was appendicitis and they had to transfer me to the city by ambulance.
I had a ct scan and They said they had to do an emergency appendectomy cause my appendix burst and it was infected.
They put me on heavy pain killers and told me not to work for a week.

I spent 3 days in the hospital, went home and had an allergic reaction to one of my meds and had to go back.

Today My DD and DH have the actual stomach flu. My household is droping like flys.

I called all of the parents yesterday and told them what happened and they were shocked, said not to worry and never mentioned anything about being paid back or having to double pay for daycare.

I feel guilty for sitting here, doing nothing but resting and getting well. I dont know why. MY hubby has been wonderful with the help. He had to take his christmas holidays early to be at home to help me.

What would you do in this situation

You and a lucky person and should rest. Appendectomy is a major ordeal. My next door neighbor, thought it was a stomach virus and decided to handle it with herbs and she died. My current neighbor went to the hospital only after his wife begged him to go. His also burst. He would have died had he not gone. He said the pain was a 9 out of 10. With that much pain I would be running to the hospital. Glad you are ok.

Crystal's son had one recently. Here is the thread: https://www.daycare.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29498

My pain was a 10 out of 10. It was worse than child birth in my opinion.

very glad to hear that you are on the mend.

I would not charge parents the week that they came back because I could not open my daycare. Just the way I do things.

It's important you recover well so you can get back to things as soon as you are ready. Put it this way, lets say you open, over do it and then need to close again, perhaps for longer to recover properly OR one of the DCK's pick up the stomach bug...yuck. That would be faaar worse!

Don't feel badly, anyone who can't understand why you need the time doesn't deserve to have their children cared for by you!

Glad you are doing well...take it easy and enjoy this time getting better and being thankful things are getting better and you're on the mend.
