What is your policy for snow days? Do you close when public schools in your area close or do you stay open if parents need to go to work?
I would close if our county is declared a level 3 snow emergency. If that happens it is considered against the law to drive anywhere unless you are emergency personnel

Reason: typo
Most of the time we follow the local schools. If they are closed, we are closed. If they have a delayed opening, we have a delayed opening. I did make an exception 2 years ago because our county is very large and consists of some very rural areas and areas that are not. Our schools were closed for 4 days. By the middle of the 3rd day, my roads were completely clear and dry. Some of the very shady roads were still iced over. I went ahead and opened so that those that could get out to get to work could go.
I don't live in my daycare home and have to drive 7 miles each day but I am open regardless of weather.
My DH has a snow plow and has plowed the roads for me before. I have also had to ride my snowmobile into work before too.
The only weather that would force me to close would be something that caused a power outage as I can not be open for business without power per licensing.
Like many northern areas, where I live snow does not slow us down or stop our community from functioning. Average annual snowfall is around 80-85 inches per year.
Our schools RARELY close for snow accumulation or for freezing temps.
It is so funny how different parts of the country handle snow. I grew up in NJ and remember going to school unless the roads were really bad and even then we only maybe missed 1 day at a time. Here in NC there is very little in the way of snow removal equipment and because of the way our weather is, when we get snow it usually starts or ends with ice. So here an inch of snow can close schools for 2 days. LOL!
