UPDATE PT DCG Age 4, Shocking Surprise

Many of you have followed my post about a family with DCG that is age 4 that is still not PT and we have been having a ton of issues.

Well on Wednesday I finally got to sit down with both mom and dad again. I said that this is going to stop or I will have no choice but to term. I told them that I have done all that I can and that ALL of the children in my care are PT except their child. I did not hold back and I was very strong in my words.

I told them starting Thursday DCG can't wear anything other than underwear anymore, she is too old for that other crap. I then went on to say that if she has an accident, that I am calling them to come and pick her up to change her.

So yesterday one accident before DCM even leaves. I make mom change her so that I can get on with my morning stuff.

By noon., the g-ma had to come two times to change her. #1 and #2 accidents...

So let's fast forward to today. I go to my online banking and see a big chunk of cash in my account. Then I see the DCG family name there.

I sit and wonder why did they pay it so early????

Then I go to my email. The family gave me a $500.00 Thanksgiving bonus and told me how sorry they were for all of the issues that they caused me. They went on to tell me that they love me and everything that I do for their daughter and that they were grateful to have someone tell them the flat out truth about their bad parenting ( I never said that BTW)

She also said that she was more than ok with the new arrangements that we have made holding DCM and DCD responsible for coming to change her when she has an accident.

BTW I told them that they have until Jan 1 to get DCG Potty trained and that if I caught wind of them resorting back to their old ways that we were done.

The email was worth more than the money to me, but I am going to have a fun holiday now.....

Just when I felt that I could not do anything right here with this family!!!!!!!

I am SO happy that you being HONEST worked out well! Not only for you but dcg (and dcp's!) It is so refreshing to hear that there are parents who will not go on the defensive and instead realize that you only want what is best for their child and that YOU know her VERY well and do care! Wonderful!

Have a happy holiday---- with your $500 (and hopefully a PT'ed DCG!)

and hopefully a PT'ed DCG! THIS.......

I really hope that she does PT over these next few weeks. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo tired of this situation. I have been dealing with it for almost ONE year.

I think that I had reached the point of being done that at the time that I met with the parents that I told myself before the meeting, if they leave I am MORE than ok with it. So I know that is where my courage came from for the meeting.

I felt that either way I was going to walk away with a win. If they termed, then I would be free of the issue. If they stayed and actually worked on it, then I won again.

Soooooo happy that they are on board with doing the right thing. The $$ bonus did soften the blow just a little. But not really a year's worth

Wow that's amazing! I'm so glad that they are not only on board and taking initiative, but also showing appreciation for all that you have done! Some kids really need that extra push. I'm telling you, my older dd was (and still is) super duper stubborn and takes advantage of any and all situations. We had a weekend of potty training where we literally were all in tears (myself included), but that's all it took. It was very unpleasant, but I have to say that there were worse phases! Good luck!
