    The Poop Obsessed Parent....

does anyone else have one of these?? this is my 2nd one in recent years. A 2-3 year old not potty trained child poops at least 4-5x a day while here and I'm sure parents are getting a morning and night one too. The minute child goes a few extra hours without pooping (like only 1-2x a day) OR has a harder, more solid poop parents decide he is constipated and load him with prunes, miralax or whatever else to get him going.

I try to gently explain to let the child work out their bowel movements, these children are NOT constipated, they are not in any pain, etc..... why can't some parents just let them be????? Sometimes I wonder if these parents poop 5x a day. :: They also happen to both be very healthy/organic eaters.

You would be suprised-I know many adults that go many times a day.

I think it is people that eat very healthy have lots of bowel movements. THe kids that I have that eat healthy go several times a day and are potty trained. One use to go about 7 times a day when in diapers! That was fun during potty training-

I had a DCB like this! Miralax EVERY DAY because he was constipated. News flash, formed stool is NOT constipation. I finally had to just TELL dcp's that he was having regular bowel movements and that he wasn't uncomfortable and that seemed to be normal for him. It took trying to PT for them to 'see' it, but dcg is now off miralax. She has one bm a day (formed, after lunch) and that's that!

oh I know the healthy foods do keep them going but I just don't think it requires an immediate dose of miralax if they have a day where they only go once or even if god forbid they skip a day. Of course if its an ongoing problem, yes, but I believe in letting the body work itself out for a day or two.... these parents are just looney for poop. ::

I could understand their paranoia if the child was prone to hernias (much experience here with that) but so long as the child is going once a day or even every other day they are not constipated.

I've found it scary how many parents are giving miralax instead of a balanced diet. My son was prescribed miralax (before it was over the counter available) but he had real constipation. I'm talking no going for 5 days constipation. He wasn't drinking enough - I still push him to drink to this day.

He's prone to hernias and managed to give himself 3 which have all been surgically corrected. Not fun.

But.. having a BM more than twice a day doesn't seem normal to me at all.
