No Hat, No Mittens...Sorry But You Are Going Outside

So done with DCPS not dressing their kids for the weather!! Or with kids forgetting their hats and mittens at school.
I sent a memo home 3 weeks ago for DCPS to send in extra socks, hats and gloves but only 1 DCF sent them.
Everyday I have to hear - It is so cold outside..I HAVE to come on because my hands are frozen or my ears are frozen. Then I feel mean for not letting them inside.
I have been nice in the past and lent out my own kids stuff but friday I had a DCG tear a huge hole in one of my DD's mittens so that is done.
Seriously, what do they think their kids do all day?? Sit around and watch TV...put extra warm clothes in their bags! It is almost winter for crying out loud!!! Sorry.....just so annoyed.

Send the kid home when you see they don't have the proper gear. No daycare for the rest of the day. No reimbursements either.

The same thing happened to me today. Kiddo came with coat, snowpants, boots, no hat or gloves! Other kiddo came with dress shoes, no hat, gloves. Note going home that they are turned away withot them tomorrow.

Same here. Although I have to say that they all had hats, however they're the "cute" kind that really dont' stay on their head or they spin so the kids can't see. the problem is the kids are so young that they can't figure out how to turn them so they can see. They walk around with one eye showing. UGH Then one dcd brought 1 mitten. Made a comment about how he couldn't find the other one. Oh, thanks, I guess I'll just switch the hands every 5 minutes.

ahh...glad to know I'm not the only one that has careless daycare parents. I still bring my daycare kids outside...it's so sad that the kids are the one's that suffer for their parents ignorance.
I have a family that NEVER brings any appropriate clothing. I said to mom yesterday, "do kids have snow pants?" Mom looks at me and says, "yeah...would you like me to bring them?" Ummmm YEAH DUMB*SS! It is -3 outside and very windy. Your kids constantly complain they are cold which I TELL you- Get with the program!!
Mom brings kids snow pants today and the poor DCG has capri style snow pants because they are soooo short. It was hilarious. I got together with another daycare today and she thought it would be funny to take a pic and post in here but DCG took them off before I could snap a pic. Tomorrow maybe
Oh and to top it off they didn't come with boots. Instead, DCG came with dressy Mary Jane shoes and DCB came in little runners.
            Great job mom!

Grrrr...Why do some kids have parents?

It was 30 degrees this morning. Had a kid come in a summer sweater and a tshirt.

Seriously. Just because you choose to run around naked during the winter doesn't mean we can let your kid do it. just leave the coat in their blooming cubby.

Exactly why I sent home a note one month before the weather even thought about getting cold setting a deadline for winter gear to be brought/worn. The gear must either be put in the cubby or brought every.single.day or the child will be turned away. I'm not flexible when it comes to children's health.

10 of my 12 have their big coats, extra socks, gloves, and hats here in their cubbies. The other 2 bring them daily.

Now, as for PANTS. Some of my kids are coming in pajama pants (the thin cotton kind) or leggings even when it's 40-50* out in the morning.

I have also given the issue back to the parent. If we are getting ready to go outside and someone does not have all the required outdoor gear, I call their parent to pick up.

RARELY do parents forget more than once.

I also talk with the kids old enough to understand that part of remembering all of the necessary clothing is their job as well and they should bear some of responsibility.

guess I am a softy I make sure they are all warm. I have a sack of mismatched mittens and old socks. The first time parents come and find they child wearing old socks for mittens they remember the extra mittens for the cubby LOL
                    It:: will wait

im a newbie and in texas so we get cold and dont wanna go outside when its below 70 degrees LOL.. so is there a certain temp where you WILL NOT take the kids outside? im just curious.. so far we are doing fine with outdoor activites, everybody puts on a coat, but I just assumed that in winter months when its 40-60 degrees that it wouldnt even be expected to go outside?? are all of you in the north where its cold alot so you are used to it??

I'm in MN and we go outside all winter long as long as its above 0 and the windchill is not too cold. We still wear shorts in 40-50 degrees.

We were outside yesterday without coats and it was in the high 50's! The kids were running around getting sweaty and didn't want their coats. Everyone (friends and such) how we all had our windows open letting the fresh air in.

I was even wishing I had hung clothes to dry but had to leave right after work so I couldn't tak them off the line.

LOL!!! ...and I laugh at you "southerners" who think it is cold when it is 0.

I am 4 hours north of you and for some odd reason, I think it is the rural setting and lack of the big city, it is a lot colder here than where you are at.

My dad lived for many years where you do and I used to love going down for the holidays....it was a trip south where it was warmer...::

Here we still go outside even when it is below zero. We do account for windchill but still pretty much play outside EVERY.SINGLE. day. Even last winter when the temps were actually -40F (without windchill) our schools were still open.
