    Letting Parents "Accrue" Unpaid Days???

I know some of us give families either sick or vacation days where they don't have to pay. I am looking for a way to maybe make them accrue these days, at least in their first year.

Right now I have that they get 5 unpaid days - can either use as a weeks vacation or individually - after they are here 6 months. It used to be 3 months but I always have families starting in Sept. and then they want to use their current year vacation in Dec. and then will use another weeks vacation early in the new year and I wasn't happy with that arrangement - they were getting a lot of unpaid time after not being with me very long (and if they left early in the year I really felt jipped!).

Does anyone have a policy where they accrue vacation/sick days based on how long they've been with you in the beginning or do they get their "free" days right off the bat or only after a certain amount of time???

I give my families 5 days right away but those are five days for the contract period. They can't take 5 in December and then 5 in the summer. It is 5 until the next contract.

when does your contract period start/end? I don't have a contract end time, its just until they leave or needs change, etc.

After a family has been with me 1 full year (enrollment to enrollment) then they get 5 days off unpaid per year.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

after six months have passed I will give them 5 consecutive days to use off at 1/2 their normal weekly rate.

This way it has to be used all at once and I don't have to track it.

I give my parents one "week" of free days per calendar year after they have been in my daycare for 3 months. A "week" is however many days they are contracted for - for example, one of my kids comes 2 days per week, so they get 2 free days. They can use them individually or all at one time.

I don't allow them to accrue them. They are valid January 1 - December 31.

My contract is always renewed every January regardless if I raise my fees that year or not. I send out new paperwork that is due in January -- the new calendar, reminders, and any new policies / fee increases each year, etc.

After 6 months, they can have a week away unpaid. It cannot be broken up.

I start it Aug 1 and it ends July 31 of the following year. The new contract then starts again on Aug. 1.

ok, seems others do 6 months also, I was afraid that seemed too long but I didn't want to do 3 months because of the Sept thru Dec. thing. I base mine on calendar year - since I don't do SA kids and don't always have teachers kids I thought it might be weird doing Sept-Aug.
The more I think about it, I think trying to do any type of accrued time would just get confusing for me.

A bit different but my vacation time at my office accrues. We get 10 vacation days total per year but it's broken up so that you earn one vacation day for every 6 weeks (roughly) of work. We start accruing the first day of works so it ends up being about equal to the employers who give 10 days all at once but don't start until after you've been employed for a year.

The sick time works in a similar fashion but runs for a calendar year. You start accruing January 1 and earn 5 days over the course of the year. Any that aren't used expire on December 31 and you start earning again the following year.

The second method would probably be easier for you to keep track of since your families would all be on the same schedule.

5 days after six months of enrollment, only offered if child / children are enrolled full-time. Days must be taken consecutively, and child cannot attend at all during that week.
