    A Parent Apology!!

DCM gave me payment for this week and next in cash as always. She left and I counted it and she shorted me one day. I texted her and asked her to bring it in next week. She asked why since I am closed Thanksgiving and the day after. I responded that those are paid days off. She then responded that she did not agree with me getting paid for Friday. I kindly responded that I was sorry she did not agree with this but I work all year without earning sick time or vacation time and I simply take 8 paid "holiday" days off a year. I said I realize my program is different than others with extra fees including pre-school, ballet & field trips but all of this was discussed in the interview. I also sent her a copy of her signed contract. I also stated that if this was too much for her she could give me her two weeks notice. I stated I am glad to care for her child but I realize my program isn't for everyone. I did not receive a response for a few hours...then I got an apology and that she LOVES my program and it was her error. My jaw dropped to the floor. Just had to share!

I got a call today.........do I just pay for Thurs or for both days. Uh, same as last year, I charge a flat rate for the week. I don't care if you come for 1 day or 5 days. I don't have any pt'rs.

That's nice. She had your contract that she could review and you were firm and resolved. I need to find a backbone award.

                      GOOD FOR YOU!

This is the kind of post I love to read... where a provider stands up for themselves, their business and their income!! I always think it's funny when parents get all snotty and try and tell us how it is - and then when we correct them and let them know they are welcome to go elsewhere their tune suddenly changes Too bad more parents can't just respect our policies from the get-go.

Thanks for the award...I LOVE it and I LOVE that I stood up for myself. The parents don't realize that this is a job too. I bet if their boss denied them pay they would have a backbone too!

                          I know, it's a darn shame.

I'm glad she ended up apologizing. That's the kind of person I want to work with. Someone who will admit their mistakes!
