    Wish Me Luck!

I just sent an email letting a part timer know that I can only continue to provide services if they pay the full rate. Its a long story but originally I thought it would work out for them to pay a half day rate since this child was in half day preschool. But the preschool schedule is much more random than I expected....many holidays, teacher work days and such that meant this child was in care for some random full days. I cannot bring in another child to work around this schedule in order to make up the loss of income. This was my first experience with preschool/daycare having to work together and while the parents have been more than cooperative and communicative, the loss of income and random schedule is more than I can handle. Also, the moms work schedule had changed and some other things. Again, parents are easy to work with but I just cant accommodate all this anymore and have let them know that they must decide by this coming monday whether they are willing to pay the full time rate, regardless of actual attendance, or whether they prefer to look for new care (which will be challenging because the schedule is funky, I have to go meet her preschool bus each day, and she is special needs)

Good luck! I have one like this. The special needs bus comes right to my house so at least that's nice but if a child doesn't ride the bus that day it can come anytime in a 15 minute time span. So twice a day I have to wait for a bus and one of those times in during nap time. My child comes from 7:30 am-11:30 am and then again at 2:20 pm. This child has the same days off as my other preschooler which is the same days off as the public schools but also has other random days off. I do get paid full time for it but it really seems like I do more work. I don't even understand what kind of instruction he can be getting for the 2 hours 20 minutes he's gone (he eats lunch their too). The bus driver in the morning is fine but the afternoon one treats him like he's made of porcelain, seriously it takes her from 8-10 minutes to get him off of the bus (he has no physical disabilities)! He has a full time sister and a school aged sister here and mom has told me they are trying to get him into a full day program so I'm crossing my fingers. I don't plan on terming because even though I may not love the situation it is something I can handle for now and I know it would be incredibly hard for mom to find another provider that could meet the needs of her three children. Ack, sorry for hijacking your post! Time for me to go to bed!

no i dont consider that hijacking and appreciate hearing your experience. that is part of the issue with the bus....it drops off in front of my house but it could be anytime within a 30 minute timeframe and I have to be out there and available immediately when it rolls up. so for that time, I have to find chores or things I can work on in my office at the front of the house so I can watch for the bus. i also have to make sure i am appropriately dressed....with the weather turning, i have to have shoes and a jacket on or umbrella or whatever when normally i might still wear a tshirt and shorts around the house. its actually much more annoying than i thought it would be! the bus driver is not allowed to get out of the bus so if I am not there, she honks and honks and gets the neighbors upset. they all come out and watch the show! then the drop off is during naptime. i put this kiddo straight to bed, but still, its right during my time that i used to have uninterrupted. all these "extras" are just magnified by the loss of income. i think mom could find other care for this one child so i am not sure what she will decide.

        yay!!!!!

such a relief to get the email from mom saying that this little one will be staying with me and they will pay the full time rate. i am so encouraged to have a parent willing to pay for quality care from someone that has been with her daughter since she was 6 weeks old. great update!

            Fantastic news happyface

I don't offer part time fees at all - no matter how many days a week or hours per day a child is here I am still paid the full-rate. It's cut out a lot of headaches that I hear other providers complaining about.
