Paying Even If Child Isn't In Care

Have you ever had a parent argue with you about paying for days their child is out sick because others had it too and were out, like meaning someone in care got them sick and a couple kids were out during this time? I haven't but I thought about it today since 3 of the kids were out tues -fri of the week due to being sick with the HFMD or something else?
I don't think any of my parents.

I don't think it's the other parents' business whether other children were out sick or not. The only attendance they should be worried about is their own child's in my opinion. If it's in your policy that they pay for sick days then they should still pay.

I haven't had any complain about it, but I have had one recently that said "well I knew it was only a matter of time" in a really snotty voice. She was referring to another child that had a cold and then her son got a cold. I got mad and said to her, I guess he hasn't been to Walmart or Meijer huh? Then I said that my house is not the only place with germs. She zipped it after that.

Yes. Former clients. Key word- former.

Kids get sick. Kids carry germs and their kid could be a carrier long before they show symptoms. I hate the who got my kid sick interrogation. Like blaming someone else solves the issue. Your kid is sick, deal with it. And fork over the check anyway.

Yes I have had this happen, the parents ended up paying half for thr eeek she was out sick then pulled her out. they were the last people I thought would leave I watched there daughter for 2 years

no because I stress in my interviews that I need to be dependable upon an income. I love kids, but this work is my living. I approach my business as a business from day one. I try very hard to maintain a working relationship with my parents. I stress that back up care is needed in case the child is sick or weather, or I am not open- holidays and days off. I stress this from day one.

I am working most days of the year- so for the very few that I have off, pick ups are early, sick kids, etc.. I cherish those days and I take them with pay. I am dependable and I am fair. I work hard.

I leave no room for those type of conversations. Having a policy,rule, handbook and contract that is clear is key to a professional daycare and working relationship with parents. Best advise I ever got here was to have these in place and tweak them to make them work for you. I still tweak as I go along.

Same here. Has never come up. And if it did, I would stop them in their tracks, point out they signed a contract agreeing they understood and accepted the fact that there are no unpaid or discounted days for a child's absence (unless it's outside of my five paid sick/personal days).

I simply quote my contract "Tuition is due 52 weeks per year, regardless of attendance."

I don't normally get so snippy, but this particular mom drives me nuts. The first time she brought up illness was when she came and asked if everyone was healthy this week? I said yes. She said, good because we have a family wedding this weekend and I don't need him sick. told her that time too that she better not take him to Walmart. A few weeks after that, we had a family wedding and I wanted to ask her when she brought him if he was healthy because I had a family wedding LOL!
