    To Take A Part Time Kid Or Not To Take A Part Time Kid

    I have a new mom that was coming in for a tour for her 4 week old and 3 year old.. WELL now she calls me and says she will only need care 2 days out of week for the infant because the father can take him the other days. :confused:

    So my dilemma is that child is gonna take up a whole spot even though Im not getting paid a full rate. These would be the last two children that i can take before i reach my 6. UGHHHHH.. should i just let her know that if and when i get a full time child, i would have to drop her infant? then maybe risk losing the 3 yr old?? these ratios can get kinda challenging

    I would tell her if she wants the spot she needs to pay the full time rate or you will find someone else for the spot.

      I take kids on a part time basis when I have an opening.

      The part time daily rate is much higher than the full time daily rate and I make sure the part time family knows that I am going to continue to advertise to fill the full time space and when an interested party comes along that is looking for full time care, I will offer the full time space to the part timer but if they decline, then I will term them and enroll the full timer.

      I am doing this job because I need the income so in my world, full time trumps part time unless there are other reasons that make the part timer worth it.

      If I were in your shoes, I would gladly make some money from the part timer until a full timer comes along. By that time the part time family just might want the space full time. You just never know.

        No dont take them. If you NEED to take full timers, then dont waste your time interviewing people that arent a good fit. you will end up resenting the money lost with this part timer plus if you have to drop the baby, the older sib will have to leave too. just let her know that you need full time payment regardless of when kids are in attendance. i would imagine that if you take them, it will be a constant battle of when dad is willing to take what kid and that is just going to have them asking for more and more unpaid days on your end.

          Oh I am sorry I never take infants p/t I have limited under 2 openings

          Yes I can take your 3 yr old p/t but p/t is 3 set days and right now I only have T, Th,Friday.

          You may bring your infant p/t but you will still pay the f/t rate/
          It:: will wait
