because not only are they gross and dirty and bring germs into my house, but i have a dcg hysterically crying for a half hour over the stupid thing. I refuse to give it too her. She doesn't need it. I find it hard to believe that no one can leave the house with out it.

I have a no blankies rule here as well. I provide cot sheets and blankets (colored fleece cut up to the size of the cot).
Our sickness rate went WAY down once I had no children bringing personal blankets to and from. There was 4-5 children doing so out of the 12 and the parents would often tell me that they couldn't get the blanket away from their child at home to wash it.
I told every parent how the sickness rate went down once we stopped and they were all very happy.

I have one dcb bring a lovie. This child will scream from drop off to pick up if he can't have it. I have one dcg who only comes 1-3 times a week. Well she's been without her blankie here for MONTHS! Yet, every time her dad brings her, he'll pull it out of her bag and give it to her. When I try taking it away she'll scream bloody murder, mind you she is 2 1/2. Then come nap time she'll lay on her mat and start crying because I won't give her the blankie. I've stuck to my guns, but it is hard. I have told the parents that she doesn't need it here. Hopefully soon they'll get the point!Comment

I allow blankets from home but they must stay here and I let parents know the detergent I use each weekend on them. If they don't want the detergent (free and clear Tide) then they can take them home each weekend and bring back on Monday. I like that each child has their own special blanket from home. No pillows, but most kids have two blankets so it works well. I use to have one boy bring stuffed animals once in awhile and that was fine they went straight to his bed but one day he had an accident so I sent them both home and they have not come back yet. I've had no illness issues.Comment

Likely because they don't go back and forth, they stay at your home.
It's a different ballgame when the blanket is being brought back and forth back and forth back and forth. It probably gets dragged on the floor of the grocery store, Chili's, Walmart, their home (who knows how often they clean? we really don't know!), etc. and you don't know how often they wash them. I don't let the children wear their shoes in here and they don't snuggle them close to their faces, and an unwashed, personal blanket CAN be the equivalent of the bottom of your shoes germ-wise. Stopping them from being brought back and forth has been a lifesaver here with 12 children ages 2-5.Comment

I had an almost 6 year old bringing a blankie and a stuffed animal with him every day!!! it was so gross. plus he walked to the animal like it was his friend. fed the thing at lunch...
Im so glad i don't have him anymore. He was more work than my 10m old at the time. She at least played with toys he wouldn't at all..Comment

Man, I used to have a child that had TWO blankies AND a football
that mom was convinced this kid couldn't sleep without. I only allowed ONE blanket to come into and STAY in my home... it stayed in the kiddo's PP and she only got it at nap time.
My nephew had a little blue blanket that he didn't let go of until well after 2. We could only wash it while he was sleeping and wouldn't notice is absence... I now have it stored in a keepsake box since he hasn't used it in 2 years. LOL.
I think it's a really crappy habit to get kids into being attatched to things like blankies, soothers, etc. I think by 12 months it's time to start weening kids off these things and letting them only have comfrot items at nap time.
Who remembers the episode of "My Strange Addiction" with the adult thumb****er who still carried around a piece of her childhood blankie??? CREEPY!Comment

I have one here who is 3 1/2 and she drags a stinky ratty old blanket in on the days she's here..God forbid if anyone should look at it, touch it, look like they're going to touch it...etc.
I have started taking it upon arrival and leaving it in the cubby...she doesn't need it and barely looks at it while she's here..unless someone else does and then she goes ballistic so it's easier to have it put away. I have one other girl here who thought she'd start bringing a blanket too but I nixed that ASAP...totally not needed and barely looked at ...at least it's not the full, double bed size ones that the two spoiled kids I USED to have brought in all the time...always stinky, always dirty and quite often reeking of pee...blecccchhh...those kids were 5 and 7 1/2!!
