Rearranging

Please tell me other providers rearrange their furniture/items frequently?

It seems like once a month I rearrange. It's always in an attempt to "do" something. Last month, the furniture and centers were rearranged in an attempt to keep the centers items AT that center. This month, the furniture was rearranged slightly so that we can use a different door to go outside so my kitchen doesn't get filled with woodchips daily.
My husband has a great attitude. "Oh! I like this one even better!" ::

Once a month AT LEAST (unless it isn't working out and I change it up after a week or so...)

it keeps it fresh! I also switch out toys and centers then as well and add toys that relate to our monthly theme.

LOL! I used to rearrange frequently; but I finally found the layout that I like the best and now I am sticking with it. There is something to be said about rearranging, though. I really see an increase in active play and newfound excitement over the same toys when they are all put in different locations! But then, there is cleanup time to deal with- no one knowing where anything goes anymore!

I like the way you have yours set up.

Thankfully, a few of my kids have photographic memories and will help the other children put the toys back in their new spots.

Oh yeah, at least once a month

My dckids are know to say "where does this go now??" when cleaning up! Rearranging along with toy rotation is the cheapest way to keep their interest.

Not really because I like my arrangement now. Plus, my playroom is arranged strangely. The owner of the house actually had a patch of carpet INSTALLED into the middle of the room surrounded by wood flooring (kind of like a large rug). It makes arranging the room very difficult! I do rotate toys out frequently though!

Yeah it's the weirdest thing! I've had so many people come in and start tugging at it to see if it's a rug (myself included). At first, I thought it was clipped down or something, not actually installed!

As a result, my preschool table will always be by my front window because there is a good amount of wood flooring there (and I would never want to set the table on carpet due to the amount of arts and crafts we do on that table). Then all of my toy storage is actually bolted to the walls to prevent tipping, so I don't rearrange those. Since all of that stays put, it leaves very little wiggle room for rearranging. Otherwise, I would probably rearrange every month ::.

For some strange reason I'm happy with things being the same for years! Of course I change out toys and centers...adding new things but the general arrangement just stays the same. I love it to just stay the same, kinda weird when you think about it!

I'm constantly rearranging! I've yet to find that perfect arrangement that works in my space. Families that have been with me long enough know it's a habit. My one family has been with me for 3 yrs and she just laughs at me.

THANK YOU for starting this thread OP! I have always been a rearranger, I LOVE IT!!! When I was in college sharing a house with several roommates I would always get in trouble for moving furniture around on my own and then they'd get a bug up their butt saying we had to VOTE before moving anything! UGH!

Then, when I was a classroom teacher, my kids knew that I CONSTANTLY rearranged my room. The kids would come in and say, "Where is my desk today?"

And now with my home daycare, I'm ALWAYS moving stuff, like DAILY. Something little gets moved daily and the whole thing gets a big change-a-roo at least monthly. My husband HATES it. He likes things to stay the same, he's someone who finds something that works and that's the end of it, it's good enough and he'd leave it all the same until he was 80 years old. However, I am constantly constantly looking for the next best arrangement, the next best layout that makes things more convenient, orderly, fit better, flow better, be more practical, serve a different purpose.

My DCPs used to comment all the time, OH I like the new arrangement, OH you changed things, OH I've never met someone who moved so often... Now, they just don't comment anymore and I prefer it that way. I'm not moving things for the attention, it just makes me HAPPY.

I rearrange stuff not just in the playroom but all over the house, and I do it as frequently as I need to in order to find what works best with our furniture, our space, and the ages of my kids and the daycare kids. So it does change fairly frequently.

I think I may have finally found the best set-up for my playroom though; I haven't had the urge to move it around lately except in minor ways and to rotate toys. WEell, you know what? I just moved the preschool table yesterday :P but it was just to take it from being flat against the wall to perpendicular to the wall.

So yeah, I'm right there with the rest of you who like to rearrange a lot. My in-laws and mom are the type who pick an arrangement when they move in and never change it for as long as they live in a place. My rearranging used to drive Dh nuts but now he loves it.

In old home like victorian and old farm houses this was very common. the center area was cheap pine and a rug was over that area. The outside 4 feet around the room had hardwood floors
