Do You Have Clumsy Kids Too?

Do any of you have any dcks who are super clumsy and accident prone?

I have a 3.5 year old dck who is always hurting himself. He has always been this way, since I have had him for the past 2 years. His parents even warned me about his clumsiness when they first brought him.

A few weeks ago, he was literally just walking, tripped over his own feet, and fell directly on his forehead, onto the side of a hard train table. Today, he stood on top of an ottoman (he had been warned by me earlier today that he may not climb on the furniture but he did not listen), and then fell backward, hitting the side of the ottoman as he fell backward. I was only 10 feet away, but was unable to catch him, but then again, he is 3.5 and I feel that these accidents should not be happening. One time, he literally walked into a dining room chair and got a huge bump on his head. It is always something.

My home is very child proof. None of the other children have any of these types of accidents. I hate having to give accident reports, and I feel terrible that the little guy is always hurting himself. I suppose I could keep all of the kids in the playroom all day and have them sit on their bottoms and play toys, but I have my own kids too, and I want them to have the freedom to play and explore, and am not willing to compromise their (and all the other kids) exploration because of one child.

Does anyone else have kids like this?

Have his parents spoken to his pediatrician about this? I'm wondering if it isn't inner ear related?

They have not said anything about it being medically related. I just assumed it was due to him not paying attention- he's the kid who will walk down the stairs, staring at the ceiling, or the windows, etc, anything but paying attention to what he is doing.

I now wonder if it is inner ear.

I have one like this! They seem to get hurt more out of my care then in but still its not little hurt either. Usually something to do with the face. I have to wonder if the action goes faster then then the brain or what.

I also have another one that has broke both arms several times!

My own 2yo DS is like this. Last week he tripped on nothing (probably just dragging his feet) and hit a corner in the hallway. He ended up with a knot in the middle of his forehead. My SIL watched him and took him to a little league game the next day and he tripped on his feet again and smacked his head on the bleachers. He got another huge knot on the left side of his forehead. Then over the weekend he was running in the hall and tripped on nothing again and hit his head on the corner of the door right in between the other two knots.

Now he has this huge greenish yellowish knot from one side of his forehead to the middle of his forehead. It's like one huge mashed up bruise now. My kid has a large head and we all joke that the heavy weight of his huge bobble-head is what tips him off balance. .

I have one like this. Ever since she started walking she will just trip and fall over her own feet. She walks into everything. She falls when running. She drops everything. She's just all around clumsy and is too busy paying attention to everyone else around her that she isn't focused on her own body movements. She's so used to falling and hurting herself that she doesn't even cry, even when she's hurt badly enough she should... it blows my mind.
