Weird. New Enrollment Cancels an Hour Later ??

Really strange. I've never had this happen!
Lady emails back and forth for weeks. Seems to like me. Comes for an interview, fills out paperwork, leaves a deposit and then calls an hour later and cancels.
I looked her up on facebook just to see her page and her recent post is looking for daycare in my area.

    weird.

Did you give her references to call, maybe?
    - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I did. They happen to all be friends of mine. I give these references to everyone.

She said it's very different from where she currently goes (but is moving and has no choice but to leave current daycare) and the space is very small. Her child is very shy and seemed concerned with the SA kids. Over all it made sense but I just find it odd that she seemed so confident in her decision to enroll and even left a deposit! Then changes her mind an hour later....

oh well, it obviously wouldn't work out, and not everyone is a good fit. At least I found out now and not later

Could a former parent that things ended badly with have said something to her? (if you even have any bad terminations)
Would you feel comfortable calling her and just asking her what happened? I think you could do that without seeming pushy or desperate-just trying to find out what happened that she changed her mind?

hopefully she's not going to try and open one herself. I had a mom string me for months and then said that she decided to go to a bigger center (I come to find out that her dd was on a waiting list and just got in) so maybe thats what happened.

or maybe a spouse or relative vetoed the decision?

I don't find it all that odd. I require a holding fee as well. All my interviews know this - they also know I book several interviews a day. So parents WILL leave me a deposit (knowing they will never see it again) even though they have other interviews lined up for later in the day or the week. This way, they still have a space in childcare if things don't work out at the next childcare. I have never had anyone not end up choosing me after other interviews - but I'm sure it will eventually happen.

She obviously paid you before being really comfortable with her decision... it happens.

              Good luck filling the space.

I'm thinking this is the case too. Dad didnt come and they went to meet him for lunch right after.

Oh well, I didnt need to fill the space, and actually wouldve termed part timers for the FT kid.

Who knows what happened! It's not an easy choice deciding where to leave your child and just as I don't want every child/family in my care for various reasons, it goes the same for parents - don't take it personal. I have had both parents and their child come for an interview, comment on the way out that they definately want to send their child here and will contact me soon, then I never hear from them again!? It's not personal, they made the choice and I hope they find care more suitable. Period.

For whatever the reason it was decided you weren't the best fit and I totally agree with you...at least she told you sooner vs AFTER you had started the process of terming your PT's...that would have been bad!!
