The only things I'll line dry are my hunting clothes. And them sitting out in the sun on the line fades them sooooo fast, despite the fact that they are rarely washed.

On the flip side I have jeans and sweatshirts I'm still wearing from when I was in high school. All have been washed in a washer and dried in a dryer weekly since then, and they're still in fantastic condition.

I'm not sure I buy that line drying preserves clothing based on those experiences.

Because it takes forever for comforters and sleeping bags to dry however I will occasionally string a line across basement doors and dry them that way. I suppose that could work for winter if the cold is a hindrance?

I have been line drying (not totally by choice) since I bought my house 2 years ago which has no dryer. I could get one if I really want, but I like saving on the electricity. I have 2 drying racks that I place next to the heating baseboards upstairs. I hang the clothes in the AM or naptime and usually dry the next day. Not fast and I pretty much spend the whole winter with drying racks up, but the other option is going to the laundromat. I only have my heat on for about 5 hours/24 up here. Maybe if you had some drying racks near the heating vents/baseboards, they'd dry faster?

Our vents are in the ceiling so it doesn't hit them real well (heat rises up, not down).

I clothespin socks & undies to hangers, and hang them in the same places. I run a box fan in the hallway, everything is pretty dry by the end of naptime. Our neighborhood has a strict "no clothesline outside" rule, so we can't hang outside no matter the season.

I am not hang drying by choice, though. Our dryer broke a couple weeks ago, and we don't have the time or money to fix it at the moment. We do have an extra dryer(hand me down) from my sister's bff that is at my mom's house. But that is 3hrs away, but they are coming in a couple of weeks for a visit, so we will have it then (or my dad can fix our old one). My sis lives a few blocks away, so if I REALLY wanted to use a dryer for free, it is available. I am just lazy, really.
My mom never dried any shirts or good clothing. She did the hanger thing around the house. My trim isn't as thick so I can't hang hangers from there, but I have a closet bar going across my washer and dryer. I hang wet clothes right there. If it is a big laundry day a put a fan on the clothes to help them dry faster because of them being so close together. Its nice to be able to put the dry clothes right in the closet
