    Destroyed Yard

Been meaning to ask this for awhile and have forgotten. Has anyone had their yards destroyed by the kids playing in them?

We have seemed to played extra hard this year outside and my poor yard looks horrible from it. It doesn't get a chance to grow long because of the kids running/playing on it. There are betting to be spots where no grass is because of all the playing so those are turning to mud spots and it just looks very thin.

What do you guys do to keep your yards from getting totally destroyed from the kids playing outside.

My yard is dirt! I wanted to put grass in but when my son was little he like to dig so that stoped us then and now with DC I didn't want to always be worring about it. The kids love the dirt. They dig, run, find rocks, draw etc. I will not put in grass until Im done with DC. (I do have a nice brick patio and my yard is ex-large for california.)

The section of the yard my dckids play in looks pretty trashed too! It was a long summer and I'll probably have to do some grass patches next spring.

I sectioned off part of the yard and put down wood chips. My hubby didn't want to mow inside the fenced area anyway. I don't love the woodchips, because they get dragged in the house a bit, but it's ok.

They have this year. There's big holes under the swingset. Plus, our rabbit decided to start peeing in the ice plant and has nearly killed all of it.

This is what I did, too. The wood chips keep the play area looking neat and the rest of the yard looks so much better now that the kids aren't killing the grass everywhere else.

I have a large paver patio we built. Another large mulched area where the main climber/bridge/tunnel thing is. One part of the yard that they don't go much because it's kind of around the corner and I can't see them well so I tend to not let them go over there much is long and lush and thick. The main grass sectiton where they play??? Trashed! Thin thin thin, balding for sure. I don't really care too much. Winter's coming and it will be covered with snow and then next year we'll see if it comes back and if it doesn't I guess we'll throw down grass seed.

We actually got through this year without it being too bad. DH didn't mow the backyard more than twice all summer though which is where they play. It got quite long around the edges but the extra length protected most of the yard and didn't look too bad. He just cut the tall straggly bits with the whipper snipper. We're going to do the same thing next year. We made jokes about DCK's being as effective as goats for lawn care all summer. :P
