I've done mashed potatoes and I mashed up some peas. The internet says steamed carrots, bread, banana cut into small pieces. I'm just not clear how small. He's the first one I've started on food that didn't have a tooth in his head.

I guess I just need to hear some info from people I trust to give me confidence.
My own son is 9 months old he has been on tablefood and off of baby food since 7 months he eats almost everything we do here is some examples:
Pasta, mac n cheese, potatoes, rice, corn, peas, green beans, carrots, beans, pears, peaches, pineapples, bananas, chicken, ham, pork chop, steak, ground turkey, bread, yogurt melts, puffs, gerber cookies, lil crunchies, cherrios, waffles, pancakes, french toast, toast, eggs, cheese, etc etc.

My younger dd had her first tooth somewhere around 9/10 months old and was completely on table foods by 10 months old (with the exception of things like applesauce and yogurt). I chopped everything very small and made sure everything was "gum-able" (aka cooked until soft).

This website has fantastic ideas for a large variety of food and when it is safe to introduce them: http://wholesomebabyfood.momtastic.com/. I used it with both of my children. I steamed most of everything, pureed it in the blender, put it in ice cube trays, froze the food and placed the frozen cubes in labeled zip-loc baggies. I didn't do it so much with our younger dd because she didn't like to be spoon fed anything, so we pretty much went straight to cubed food at around 8 months. I got sick of making two separate meals pretty quickly (one for the big kids and plain steamed food for her), so she ended up eating the same table food as everyone else by 10 months old. I introduced her to a spoon and fork at around 13/14 months old and I've never had to help her eat anything since!

        and rice.
and beans (cooked, obviously). My DS likes black beans a lot.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I find the best thing for that age is to make a giant chicken soup with lots of veggies, pasta too (macaroni type shape that is easy to pick up), and then serve the deconstructed soup (bits of chicken, veg, pasta, etc). The kids totally gobble it up and it's so easy (I use my slow cooker).
