That's It! Putting My Rates Back On The Website!

Momentary vent - sorry in advance.

About a month ago, I decided to try removing my rates from my website to see if it increased my opportunity to have 'facetime' (call it ear-time!) with potential clients to see if I could land more interviews for my openings instead of just having people scribble my rates down from my site in their search but end up conversing, and signing, with another provider who they had to call for that info before actually speaking with me - kwim???

Well, I shoulda known better. My calls increased - along with the number of interviews that people scheduled. Would seem good, but ...

Today, had an interview at noon on my Saturday with a lady who had a 2 yr. old and a 4 yr. old. Perfect - as I will have two toddler spots open as of this Friday! Felt I did a good job of screening her. Had a very genuine conversation as well as some good laughs and then today ...

    NO SHOW.

I am SO SICK of people wasting my time and either not being honest, or just being flaky! IF YA DON'T WANT CHILD CARE, DON'T SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT! UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Putting Rates Page back together for site as we speak!

Okay ... stepping off Soap Box now! Thanks for listening!

Personally I see nothing wrong with that. You can give all the same details in your site you can in a phone conversation and if you think about it... If it takes you getting them in the door to "sell" them then it's prob 50/50 anyway. I don't think the whole secrecy thing always or even most of the time pays off. The #1 thing people want to know first is cost because if they can't afford it then it's a waste of everyone's time. From THERE they want to know the details.

I haven't done it yet but have been considering it. Tired of wasting time on no shows. And calls for people who most will not work out cause of cost. If they are looking for the cheapest thing they can get and don't care about quality then that's a red flag anyway. I don't want those calls...Not trying to sell my business. Trying to find the right fit.

My rates are on my website and I have had 5 scheduled interviews in the past 1.5 months. Out of those 5 .......... 4 did not show up! We must be in a really weird flakey season. The flakeyness must be spreading.

I started with no price on my website and made the switch. It has GREATLY decreased the amount of time I have wasted.

it's contagious! I've had problems with no-shows escalate to ridiculous levels in the past the years. 1 show to every 3 or 4 no shows is not uncommon here. for me. it might be just nee...

On another board I am on, a provider said that she reduces the number of no shows she gets by telling parents during the phone call (or e-mail) that there is a list of "no showing parents" that area providers will use/check to see if a family no shows interviews. Once or multiple times.

They (providers) tell parents that they don't want their name to get on this list because it will severely impact their ability to find daycare services so it is important that they (parents) show up for the interview or at least call and cancel BEFORE if they don't want their name on this list.

She said that since her and her group of area providers have basically eliminated "no shows" thus far.

I don't know how this list would or wouldn't work but did think it was an ingenious way to let parents know how rude it is to no show someone and that providers will eventually all catch on to who is rude enough to do it. ::

How do they keep track of that list?

I am entrigued. I would also love to learn how this works. I mean in theory even just saying that there is such a list even of it doesn't exist would give a client a reason to think twice about just not showing up right

Ok, I asked and I guess the group that uses "the No Show" list are all providers from the same area and I guess they set up a web-page that they all have access to.

Each time a provider gets no-showed, she goes to the site and adds the family's name to the list as well as any other info they want to include.

I have no idea how legal, fair or ethical this list is but I personally think it is a FANTASTIC idea

...also like Marina Vanessa said, even just telling a parent that such a list exist might be a great way to detour no-shows.

I've only ever had one no show. But I have had many many interviews that did not result in a family signing up. I HATE doing interviews that end up not working out because of location or price, if they knew that info BEFORE the interview, then why waste our time?

I just e-mailed all of the providers in my small community and my friends (who is also on this board). I'm hoping that opening up a dialogue will help to start this here. happyface

Legal yeah that's a good question, but fair... personally I'd say 100%

I so wish I could do this and post the list to craigslist but I bet you'd be blacklisted pretty quickly off there... hmmm... maybe a FB group...
