    For The Love Of Pete...

So I have this mom who signed my contract, which clearly states all the rules of daycare... but she continuously breaks the rules & it was driving me crazy. Last Thursday I typed up a friendly note reminding her of my rules & asked her to please read her contract again. I had her sign it, stating that she read the rules & understands the rules & will follow the rules, and bring it back to me on Monday. She did. No big deal. Until today...
Her 3 year old walks in with a cookie in her hand. Just. One. Cookie. None for the other kids. My rules CLEARLY state that you MAY NOT bring food from home. This was not one of the rules I reminded her of on the paper from last week, those were the 5 other rules she continuously broke....do I seriously need to spell out every single freaking rule????
    Read the contract, you wacko!!!
    Grrrr....
    TGIF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! happyface

I have a trash can at the door for a daycare mom that just didn't get it. "Sorry johnny, you can't bring food in here. You need to throw it away or your mom can take you back out to the car to finish it."

Ugh ... this is where I make this face at the child , then this face at the parent , turn the child around and gently guide both of them out the front door and say in a super sweet voice and probably through gritted teeth "Hey little Mikey, only one cookie means you can't bring it to daycare so I need you to finish that cookie outside with mommy and when you are ready for daycare you can come back in ok."

And... these parents aren't even ebarassed about their terrible parenting! When is a cookie ever a good choice for breakfast? Are people really this clueless? REALLY?

Actually, I apologize for not stating this in the 1st post, but these are my 2nd shift kids & they arrived at 3:30 this afternoon. Brother & sister. But only the sister had a cookie.

This is the same mom who NEVER brought shoes for her children, even when asked 3 times. I also asked her not to bring a diaper bag back & forth, children have a drawer here for them to leave their things, so instead of bring a "diaper" bag she started bringing a "kroger" bag. Ugh. I said NO BAGS at all. Keep their crap here in the drawer I provide & make it easier on everyone! She also kept swiping her childcare card & leaving it lie on my counter while she went to work. Uhhhh....no. I can get in trouble for that if I get an inspection. She allowed the daughter to bring toys from home. NOPE. Not allowed.

Seriously...how hard is it to follow the rules?
            1. Don't bring food unless there is enough for everyone!
            2. Don't bring toys from home unless it is a donation for my daycare!
            3. Shoes are a must!
            4. Children have a drawer here for their things...stock it up & don't bring a bag!
            5. Don't leave your card here!

This is the mother of the little boy who bit my 7 month old son twice in the 1st week he was in my care. Also the same mom who ASSURED me her children would only be here 2nd shift during the month of September...here it is the end of October & they are still 2nd shift, with no future plans of that changing either. It's been trouble from the start

:Ok, well the cookie thing isn't AS bad... I think I'm still upset from a few weeks ago when a dcd dropped off his son with a cookie bigger than the kid's head and then 5 minutes later another dcd dropped off his son with a BOTTLE OF COKE!

Anyways, I think some people just really believe that rules do not apply to them. I had a mom like this once. She was fired from every single job she ever had because she couldn't get there on time or follow any of the basic rules so finally she started working for her dad... and even he wanted to fire her (and should have). Needless to say, she was eventually termed for thinking that she didn't need to follow the rules here. Some people's parents

                Most parents understand daycare rules.

They just apply to the OTHER parents.........

I had a dcm bring donuts & soda with her kids every morning. I started sending them back out the door to finish their 'breakfast' because they didn't have enough to share. Fast forward the following week and dcm comes in with a 12 pack of soda and 2 dozen donuts.

< my face. Hahaha, we had donuts, the soda was sent to dh's work and then I sent home the 'NO FOOD AT ALL EVER' policy update.

Put a trashcan by the door, ask for the cookie, push the child on in and throw the cookie out.

Ok, I know we've discussed this before. But please recap for me... Why do we care so much about what the kids are fed??? If we are too controlling of THEIR child, aren't we going to just pi** them off?

I know I know, my house my rules I get that. But I just waffle on this alot... I offer delicious, healthy, fresh cooked breakfast, but a kid still comes with a sticky bun... Or gum in his mouth... Or Funions.... I hate it. But it's not my kid, so why do I care if the mom feeds her kid crap?

Meanwhile, I've got scrambled eggs, wheat toast, and grapes sitting there for after his sticky bun...

Well, its not something you can really control, I agree. But we all know that eating cookies (I must add, Quaker makes breakfast cookies, and Belvita. I love them ) ends up as a kid who will likely reject your delicious, nutritious breakfast and crash into a whining, hungry mess around 10:30. Of course, they could eat a whole pack at home or in the car, and we may be none the wiser, but it's something about having it in your face, along with the obvious disregard for the rule, that makes you crazy.

I just dont get how if I can get ten kids to gobble down broccoli, why it's so hard to hand one kid a banana on the way to daycare and preserve their appetite for decent food.
