Popcorn And Gummies For Breakfast ????

DCK shows up this morning with a bag of popcorn and a pack of gummies for breakfast...tells me that DCM said it followed my food guidelines because popcorn is a grain and gummies are fruit
The gummies were the 100% fruit kind so I will give them that but seriously, what happened to kids eating real fruit and pancakes or oatmeal for breakfast????
Then I had to listen to my DS whine that he wanted popcorn for breakfast too.... No fair, me wants potcon too!!
    Oh my!

I agree that this was ridiculous, but your ds's complaint is justified, and super cute! That's how my ds said 'potcon' forever, and I miss it now!

      You can blame Eatingwell.com, Livestrong.com, Mayoclinic.com and ScienceDaily.com

Popcorn is the "new" wonder grain. "Popcorn eaters get 250% more whole grain in their diets than people who don't eat popcorn" "higher in anti oxidants than fruits and veggies!!" and "the only snack that is 100% unprocessed grain".

This one, my dear, is here to stay.

BTW, ALL popcorn is whole grain. Don't spend more money on the ones labeled as such. ::
      - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

so they had time to make popcorn in the morning but didn't have time to pop some toast in a toaster????? My ds had a teacher (a young one with no kids) who told all the kids that fruit snacks are fruit because they say "fruit snacks" so he came home and told me this. I had to laugh at that.

there is a reason popcorn does not count as a grain on the food program. How much do you need to eat to count as a serving?

and fruit snacks they may have 100% fruit juice in them but they barely have any of it unless they made it at home with NO sugar.
          It:: will wait

LOL I think it was the bagged brand of popcorn because it had some type of white coating on it...maybe the white cheddar popcorn or something.
Those 100% fruit snacks might be real fruit but they are so bad for the teeth. It is like fruity glue! Yuck! LOL My kids do love them but I've always offered them as a treat.

They make the kind that are 100% fruit....i forget the brand but it has smiling fruit on the front. Its seriously just fruit with no sugar added (they are super sweet anyway)...they even tell you how many pieces of fruit are in each pack. They're good....

I still wouldn't serve them for breakfast. Just eat food, for Pete's sake.

Fruit snacks are gross and should be in the candy aisle because that's what they are.

However, I have no problem with plain popcorn. My dd eats plain popcorn with her breakfast all the time and it's a staple snack around here. Totally plain, popped in a paper bag in the microwave. Now flavored popcorn is a whole other junk food story......

Sounds like DCM is trying to get on your last nerve for some reason. I'd save the gummies and give it to the child right before pick up time.

Oh well.. Popcorn is better than a Hershey Bar (which, btw a parent sent in for their very spoiled child for breakfast once.)

I think DCM is one those people who doesn't like to be told what to do and me asking her to bring healthier food for her DCK may have set her off...that and me sending back the bag of chips, brownie and pop she sent for snack last week
