    Toy Seperation

    How do you keep the little ones from being able to the toys made for the older kids that can be choking hazards? I cant think of anything besides obviously watching em like a hawk. i would prefer not to seperate the room?:confused:

    I'm going to be having the same issue soon. When I started 3 years ago all my kids were right around DS's age (2) so they were all playing with the same types of toys. Well I still have them all now but they are 4-5 and I'm getting my second round of infants. So now I'm having the issue of some wanting to play legos and little things like that with infants who want to put everything in their mouth. I think I'm going to set up a gated area in one part of the room with a superyard or something similar. I figure it will keep only age appropriate toys in and will allow the babes to get more floor/tummy time. Right now I have to limit it because with the older kids running around they would get stepped on or fell on so easily.
    I've also heard of some providers having the older kids take the little toys like legos or something in the superyard and letting the littles play in the rest of the room. Depending on the ages of the little ones and how many you have that might be an option too.

      I you mentioned you're not keen on it but I have separate rooms. All of my baby stuff is kept in the main part of my living space, all of the bitty toys that cannot be out around littles are kept in my playroom. The only times the bittys go in there are to nap, at which point the room is picked up and the older kiddos come out to do projects and whatnot.

        I avoid the choking hazards.. they do not need legos. they are plenty happy with Duplos and magna tiles Barbie shoes hurt when stepped on. so even my dgd those get tossed when she gets them.

        Then there are things like the stacking pegs. I just make those table toys and they check the floor when they are done.
        It:: will wait

          With Barbies - I focused on the furniture and barbies with one outfit (I didn't want to have to keep changing them) no shoes or little pieces. They like them just fine.

          Also I agree duplo's work fine.
