How long do your infants usually nap? I have an almost 3 month old that is here just over 8 hours and will only sleep for 30-40 minutes ALL day. The 5 month old sleeps 1 to 1-1/2 hours in the am and 2 1/2 to 3 hours in the pm. The younger one will not sleep in a pnp. Every time I set him in there, he wakes up after 10 minutes, but is wiggling and making noise the entire time. If we head outside to play or on a walk, he is instantly sleeping in the stroller.

My 10 week old sleeps on and off ALL day. Rousing usually only for a few minutes here and there and to eat, burp and be changed.
My 7 month old sleeps once in the morning for an 1-1.5 hours and again in the afternoon for about 2.5 hours. Both are here from 7:45 until 3:30.
My last infant before that slept for 10-15 minutes total ALL day...which was still blissful since any awake hours, minutes, and seconds were spent screaming at the top of their lungs.- Flag

I have a 3mnth old that sleeps all the time, but only in 30 min increments. I have another 3 mnth old that sleeps for maybe 20 minutes the entire time he is here (5 hrs).
Well, he used to. Today he slept for an hour and a half. I could tell he is tired. I talked to mom and she said sometimes she lets him cio and I had to today for a little bit. He was screaming and everything I tried was making him even madder! So i swaddled him, stuck him in the pnp, gave him his paci, turned on the music and closed the door. He was out in less than 5 min!!! He slept for like an hour. I normally don't let infants cio but everything I was trying was making it worse!!!
Maybe he is just excited and interested in what is going on? WIll he sleep if he is by himself or somewhere quiet and dark?- Flag

The only time he will sleep is if he's moving. Pretty sure that at home he has either been bounced to sleep and then held, or taken in the car. I don't think she was home at all during her leave. I feel so bad because I know he is tired, but he just won't give in. They also keep him swaddled constantly and I won't do that. I guess it is just going to take time. Hopefully the crying won't continue like it has tho, because I really hate to term him, but I know I can't listen to it all day everyday. If he were just happy and not sleeping or just cranky here and there, but not all day. I guess I'll just have to wait it out.- Flag

You really have to work to get kids from cat napping. Seems like most kids will revert to cat naps if you just follow their natural inclinations. Sleep is like any other habit, its a learned thing.
For my kids under 6 months, the goal is 2 to 3 hours in the morning, another 2 to 3 in the afternoon.
I swaddle as long as possible, darkened room with white noise and I dont go in and get them just because they are awake. Of course I do check on them but I do some fuss-it-out....basically hesitate and let them work things out on their own. Dont feel you have to rush in at every squeak.
I dont take part time infants period (the ones on random schedules). It has to be a regular schedule where parents and I have child on a good routine, child is here the same schedule every day (for instance, every morning from 8 to 12) and that way, I know for sure what they normally do or need and we arent just trying to survive for a few hours here and there. A good routine is the only way to go with infants! and even then, they can be a handful ;0- Flag

The swaddling thing here (in our state) is kind of a gray area. We aren't allowed to use ANYTHING in an infants sleep area. My licensor said that includes swaddler wraps. The only thing allowed is the infants clothing on them. No blankets, no pillows, no fluffy mattress pads etc. Firm, flat surfaces ONLY.
Not sure about mema's area but she is in the same state as I am.- Flag

I wouldn't swaddle when he was awake! But see if it helps. Some peice of mind is better than a screaming baby! I had an 8mnth old like that and I had to term. For his sanity, mine, and the other childnre!!!- Flag

The AAP does not recommend swaddling once an infant is old enough to go to daycare because, among other things, it can contribute to an increased risk of developmental dysplasia of the hip.
I've decided that I won't swaddle anymore since I learned that. I figure it's better to be safe than sorry.- Flag
