Is It Okay To Check A Child For Lice Without Permission From Parent?

I just got an email from my DD's school that a case of lice has been detected in her class...UHG! I will be checking her head as soon as she walks in the door this afternoon but I also have a DCG who is in her class.
Should I call DCM to advise that I will be checking her DD for lice when she comes in or just go ahead and check with no call?
    Thanks for the help

Just check! You have to protect your house, kids, and the others from spreading.

Yep.. I just check too. Her mom should also check at home.

Check them outside in the sun, and inside in normal light.

          Should also ask -

Would you send home a child with a suspected case of lice?

After we battled head lice with a dcg for 3 weeks..I check all the kids all the time. No need to tell the parents inless there is lice found. Like stated already, you have to protect your home, yourself, family and the other kids in your care !

I would definitely get permission first, unless she is itching her head!

The way I see it is if they are entering MY home, then I have a right to check them.

If there was lice or nits or eggs present I would send home immediately and not allowed the child to return until they are nit/bug/egg free.

no it is a normal health check.

When I was a kid I loved lice checks at school Now we had no idea what it was... We went onto the stage and it was all dark excep for black lights. I guess the nits glow in black lite then the school nurse would tickle your head with a toothpick.

The fun was waiting in line with white on LOL
                    It:: will wait

They don't get permission from parents to check heads at school, so no, I don't see why a daycare should be any different.

Odds are your daughter and the dcg's heads have both already been checked over by the school nurse, hence the notification of it already having been detected in their class. Wouldn't hurt to reassure yourself though by doing it again.

I wouldn't have even thought to ask permission and don't think it is neccesary. The child is in your care. It's not like you are checkig for roundworm!

I would check your child and DCK, if (hopefully not) found anything on either would check everyone. I would tell parent at pick up if I checked their kids head and about how often I will repeat. To me this is no different that checking to see if a child has a temperature., you think something might be going on with the child that needs some attention so you check to see..
