    Brutally Honest DD

So this didn't happen during dc hours but so funny and brutally honest. At bedtime my dd (age 5) and I are laying on my bed having some cuddle time after reading a book and she looks at me and says:
dd: Mom I just wish you were more beautiful-in a super sweet voice.
me: Well, some people think I'm beautiful...like daddy.
dd: Yea, I guess, but you used to do your hair sometimes and put on make-up.
me: I guess so dd, but that stuff isn't important to me. This is the real me. You don't wear makeup, neither do I.
dd: I'm gonna wear makeup when I get big mom, maybe you should too sometimes.
me: I don't know honey, beauty is on the inside...right?
dd: It doesn't hurt if you're beauty is on the outside too, right mommy?

Oh man, I told my dh....wow, that was an eye-opener. Have I really let myself go? Needless to say I'm going to get my hair cut and colored today....it really does look like crap::

I totally understand where you are coming from. My teenage son asked me the other day if I had gotten hit in the eye. No, I said-why?

Your eyes are just kinda black underneath. Oh, I said.

First sign of me doing way to much but frustrated because it is all stuff that needs to get done.

I have no time for makeup, hair, and things like that anymore in the mornings because the minute I'm awake my feet hit the floor running.

Agreed. I am such a hot sweaty person that even when I try to fix up, my hair ends up pulled up in a pony with a thick headband and make up sweated off anyway. So then I just give up and don't try at all. I'm so embarassed almost daily by how crappy I look in front of my family and all the DC parents.

If I were in any other job outside the house I would have to fix up better, but since it's home I sleep in until the last minute, or, start cleaning the minute I wake up until kids arrive.

I haven't painted my toes the entire summer, how embarassing!

Maybe this week I'll make an effort to look better for work each morning and see if it changes my day/outlook at all.

When you look better you feel better, right??

Its scary how we kinda stop paying attention. I always put my hair up and never pay any more attention to it than that. about a month ago, i went to get my hair cut. I wanted it about to my shoulders. the lady asked if i wanted to donate it. I said WHAT? doesnt it have to be 10 inches? she said I had plenty! I didnt know my hair was even close to that long! I never looked!

Haha.....whenever I get my hair cut I tell the lady whatever she does make sure it is long enough for a ponytail because that is all I have time for!

                I had a 5yo dcb boy tell me "Your hair looks.....(long pause)......crazy!"

I do feel bad sometimes because when my dh goes to work he is around ladies who are all made up and dressed nice but when he gets home he gets me who is drooled on, apparently has crazy hair, no make-up who is exhausted!

When I started daycare a few years ago I swore I would not let myself go! Well, I have. It's so hard to put on decent clothes when you know you will not be leaving the house all day. And I feel like I am wasting makeup! Lol

                      LOL!! ::

I went a couple of weeks and wore nothing but ponytails. It really made me feel frumpy and old. I'm a slender lady in her early 20's who wears nice clothing. :: I have been wearing ponytails with much less frequency now.
I also wear make-up daily so that I don't feel frumpy. Eyeliner, powder, and mascara. Quick, easy, and effective so that I look like I'm awake.

Somewhat off topic, but I wear the makeup until "I" dictate when it goes bad. I swear, I think manufacturers purposely put date stamps on longevity just so you go out and buy more. For example, if you ever read the razor cartridges, you are only supposed to use them for 1 week. At $3 a pop for one razor, I am not willing to throw it out after a week. I use them until I have a hard time getting the hair off (sometimes a month or more ). I'm sure most of my eye shadow is "expired" now because I think it only is supposed to be used for 12 months or less. I keep my eye shadow for years! The only makeup that gets purchased fairly quickly (in my opinion) is my face powder (~every 8 months), my mascara (~6 months) and my eye liner (~6 months), but only because they run out or get clumpy.

OMG that is so funny...I dont do make-up during DC and hardly ever on outings either..

My DS told me the other morning as we were laying in my bed..."Hey mommy, I have a hairy mustache see". I ask him where did you get a hairy mustache, he says" from your hairy legs:..............

I guess I better shave my legs more....

As far as I go, the fact I wear comfortable lived-in clothes, a ponytail and flip flops every day kind of speaks for itself. Whenever I put my hair down, the kids always marvel "wow, your hair is sooo beautiful!" I haven't cut or colored it in 6 months, so it hangs down past my waist and the top 4 inches are brown (although they look black because the rest of my hair is very light blonde). I am scheduled to get my hair cut and colored in a week and a half, so I'm sure everyone will be shocked to see me! It's funny because all of the kids have been asking why my hair is black on top for months now .
