Would You Keep Doing This With Naps?

    Day 3-everyone sleeping!

Problem (one of many with the group) on child sleeping. Child wants to sleep in the big kids room. This child is the oldest so of course wants to sleep there (almost 5). Starts off in the big kids room but can't not settle down. Constently laughing, rolling around, getting up and down, making noise, talking, etc. They are given one warning if the don't settle down they have to move to an area by themselves in another area. Always ends up having to move.

Child screams and I mean screams when they have to move. Screaming they want to be with in big kids room. I just know people think this child is being tortured on a daily basis. Child is laid down and screams for a few more minutes and then just falls asleep.

I have noticed every time (not just this week but others also) when this child is moved everyone falls asleep in the room. When child stays in of course everyone stays awake.

So would you let child try and stay in the room or just lay them by themselves from get go. I was trying to let them stay in it and earn the privilege and then if they can't handle it they go into the other area.

What about letting them earn the privilege?

If you're quiet today and go right to sleep, you can sleep in the big kids' room tomorrow.

Tried that! Will go to sleep no problem, next day is just a mess in the big kids' room. Has no problem going to sleep by themselves just can't handle the group aspect of sleeping but wants to be in there.

ditto with sharlan- see if they can earn it. but some kids can't do that....

CK- I do the same thing with the almost 2 or 2's crowd for those that cant stay on their mats. I start them out on their mats and if they cant stay on it, PNP here they come.... I always ask them would you like to lay on your mat or go to the PNP. THis is of course they are able to understand and communicate this with me.

I have a 4 year old that eats her socks, plays with everything within reach and I have to tell them daily, would you like to stay here with the big kids or go to the baby area and sleep. Usually within minutes they are out.

They will lay sitll for maybe 5 minutes and then go crazy again so I just move them. The parents actually had me put the child in a pnp last year for naps as it was over the top. Child would crawl right in snuggle down and sleep for hours! Child is way to big for it though this year even though parents asked if I wanted it back for naptime. I can't imagine a child sleeping in one when they are headed to kindy pretty soon!

Maybe the child needs that cocoon feeling of the pac and play.

I would do whatever works best for you.

I would make sure that if he does want to sleep in there if its ok with licensing. Are we allowed to have children that big sleep in a PNP..

I am sure he might be out of the manufactures height/weight requirements too??

I had a 3.5 year old that slept in one here, because he was still sleeping in one at home and it was the only way that I could get him to nap???

I have the same problem, except mine have issues with their siblings if napping close. I have to separate my sibling sets or they roll around, laugh, jump on each other. And every day, dcb: " I want to sleep by my brother"...... I just calmly say, No, I'm sorry, we already tried that and it doesn't work out.

Can you put them ext to a piece of furniture that would block thier view of the other kids? I put my troublesome nappers at the end of my couch where they are between the couch and a doorway/ wall. THey can start with thier head one way if they play around they put thier head at the other end where they can't see anyone.

I would not go through that every day. I might try again in a month.
