    Vent About DCF

Okay, now I am really aggravated. I hit something on my laptop and it erased my whole post

Anyway.... dcg was sent home last Wed because she had D. She didn't come Mon because she was supposedly spending the day with dcd. So she comes to get dcg and she says to me, I thought she was doing better. She only had 4 D yesterday compared to the 8 she had the day before! WHAT!!!

So she was out Fri, returned Mon with Dr note. I closed Wed because my own daughter got sick. I sent her a msg that night after my dd threw up tellign her I am sorry but I have to close. She said that dcg still had D and it was probably from teething and shots! Nope, sorry I don't believe teething causes diarrhea like that. It may loosen the stools if dcg has excessive drooling or is swallowing a lot of saliva, but it doesn't cause running liquid to ooze out the diaper!

Anyway, I sent her another message today that dd is doing better. No D or V and her apetite is finally increasing!!! happyface She says dcg still has D and a terribly diaper rash! I asked her what her doctor said because it has now been 2 weeks that she has this and could it be the rotovirus or something like that. At the same time she sends me another message saying if I can't watch her she will try to find someone who can...

I then told her she cannot return to daycare until she is symptom free for 24 hours. I have an infant, Lily and myself to worry about. She then replies that she called the dr and he said it's from teething since she is getting 3 molars. AND says that the other children and my health is priority and she understands.

At this point I am thinking this is getting ridiculus. i told her dcg was welcoem to come back to daycare once she no longer had illness symptoms for 24 hours. She was the first family I got back in August when I opened. I am already providing her the cheapest care, I don't charge her for days that she isn't here and I didn't

have her sign a contract. But we did go over this during the interview. I am sort of hoping that she finds another provider. Her spot is worth twice as much as what she pays as it is and now this is just aggravating me. My entire house was sick to include my husband, and both daughters!!! I also have infants here and wouldn't want them to get sick because a parent doesn't want to keep their child at home.

Sorry this is so long, but I am more than a little upset at all of this. Maybe I am just over reacting or being emotional. I know that in daycare kids get each other sick. But to knowingly bring a child here that is just miserable to get everyone else sick isn't right! I am so tempted to terminate care but the little girl is just so sweet and well adjusted.

I should have known better when she told me that she was switching daycares because her previous provider wasn't doing what they agreed on and was raising rates and charging her FT for a PT spot. If I knew then what I know now

I would let her know that her rates will be increasing. There is no reason that she can't be paying what other clients of yours are paying. If she doesn't agree to the rate increase, then she will term herself. Either way, you will get the rate you deserve.

2 weeks of oozing poop? That's not teething. Sorry.

I beg to differ....I have a little one here that is almost a year old and it is totally from teething. Even had her stools tested. Explosive diarrhea and it happens when she has more than one tooth coming in at a time.

It isn't common but yes it does happen. She was having to have outfits changed everytime because it was soooo much. Didn't have to convince the mom to take her to the doctor, because she was just as alarmed as I was. We totally thought it was some kind of horrible stomach virus.....nope....just teeth

If you google "teething Mayo Clinic" you will see that according to their researchers diahreah is NOT a symptom

It is not a symptom but ds#1 always did last winter I had 3 teething and yep all of them did along with diaper rash luckily only 1x a day. it was not like when you are sick and you do it everytime you eat.

Glad the whole group has all their teeth now.
          It:: will wait

this little girl is having liquid diarrhea multiple times a day with a severe diaper rash for 2 weeks. Having runnier stools than normal, maybe teething. But she had a stomach virus last week and now it it just teething???

runny stools from drooling and swallowing saliva? Yes.

liquid stools for two weeks? Nope.

              I would ask for a dr's note.

2 diahreah episodes in one day and the child goes home no matter the excuse or doctor's note. I tell my parents when I interview that when in doubt I refer to our local school district sick policy, the Center for Disease Control, and the Mayo Clinic before I choose to exclude for sickness. I make the decision for the protection of my group. Not the doctor. No case of "teething" is going to cause the diahreah you have described. Something else is going on. Maybe too much fruit or juice at home? Good luck.

It really doesnt matter why this child is having diarrhea....I wouldnt take care of a child that had liquid poo because it is unsanitary when a diaper cannot contain the mess.

OP, start interviewing for a new family that is willing to pay your current rate and the term this other family.

I wouldn't just request a note from the doctor at this point, but stool sample results. Parents far too often will gloss over things and get doc on board with thinking the daycare provider is just overreacting without even taking a second glance at the child.

I had to go that far with one of my families and although I know they weren't happy about it I wasn't happy with the state of kiddos bum or my carpet where ever he was sitting when it exploded out the sides.

Actually, teething does NOT cause diarhea, and you would be very hard pressed to find many doctors who say that it does. I have talked to 30+ doctors (some of whom are peds) who ALL disagree that teething causes diarhea or high fevers. I have done PLENTY of research in the matter as well (http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/new...ething-illness ; http://www.babycareadvice.com/babyca...icle.php?id=49 ; http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/teething/FL00102 ; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teething).

Teething is NOT contagious. So why is it that every single time a parent has ever blamed their child's illness on teething that my whole house gets sick within a week??? EXACTLY!

And regardless, nobody wants to clean up constant runny/explosive poops. Sorry, but that's the job of mom/dad

Well, thank you all for the comments. I am glad that I am not alone in this. i felt like the bad guy but I have to protect the other children in my care. The other thing is the child has no drool what so ever. None. I don't think it's teething at all, but either way I am not taking a sick child. And sick to me is Diarrhea, vomiting, fever, eye gook, etc... I am really hoping she terms on her own. But I already have an ad out and am hoping I can pick up another family soon. And I am also thinking about only taking children over 2.

For the record, Nickel, if that happens again, try (inside the white box) right click, and choose "undo." Often with laptops, you highlight a section of text accidentally and when you type the next letter, it erases. You can generally "undo" that action, even if you have to hit it a couple of times.

It doesn't matter the cause, more then 2 explosive out the diaper poops, and they go home and stay home until no more loose stools.

It's too hard to chase kids and clean poop from carpets, furniture and the kids themselves.
