    Bartering

    We have a family that was going to withdraw due to a lack of money coming in until December/January. They couldn't pay the remaining 2 weeks notice.

    We are considering bartering. Wood flooring (installed) in place of tuition. They would give us 25% off and the wood would be at cost. So, $750 of tuition for every $1,000 used for flooring and installation.

    We have seen the Dad's work before. It is spot on. We planned to use this Dad to do our flooring in the near future anyways (bartering just because, not out of necessity) but now that it is a necessity is it still a good idea?
    Some friends of ours have concerns about this and see it ending poorly. We really don't have much to lose...

    i do this with short term stuff and it has always worked out for me. Since this is a longer job to do, I would make sure that I put it in writing so that there is NO confusion between either party. I think that if you write it out and both agree to it, that there should be no problems.

    BTW I am so jealous of you..I realy want new hardwood floors

      Definitely a written agreement would be necessary. Right now he is constructing a list of the approximate costs included. He gets wood at 30-40% off and we would be getting it at cost. He said they range in price from $1-20 sq. ft. and we could choose.

        I bartered with a DCD for all the tile installation in our house. He gave me a bid for the job and I "credited" him that amount at daycare. When his credit ran out, they started paying as they normally did prior to our deal.

        He still counted it as income for his business (as did I) but no money actually changed hands.

        I LOVED the arrangement and have done bartering with other families as well.

          I dont see a problem with it as long as you have a written agreement as well as a deadline. I LOVE our hardwood floors. Carpeting with daycare is just disgusting IMO. Maybe it was worse in our case because I have several reflux babies, one right after the other....ewww

              Can he come do mine, too???

              I think it's a great idea, a solution to both problems. Make sure there is a decent contract before starting, as everyone else said.

                Absolutely! Just so long as there is a written agreement I think that this will really benefit both parties! Great deal!

                  get EVERYTHING in writing It can be a real mess otherwise. Agree on what service is worth what in advance. and what happens if one person does not do it as agreed on
                  It:: will wait

                    I think it's a win-win situation and totally recommend it. You will be able to keep a good client, not have to worry about finding a replacement, get your floors done and share good will with your families. GO FOR IT!!!

                      If anyone knows of any contracts that are made up already I could use the help! I really have no idea how to make a contract for this type of agreement.
