    What Makes A Kid Needy???

I have a Kindergartener who is smothering me. I can't turn around without him being right there in my face (I say in my face, not underfoot, because he's very big for his age too). He says my name about 100 zillion times a day, he just has to comment on every single thing and talk to me incessantly. And not just talk, but he wants a response, "Right Miss _____? Right?" He wants to help with every single thing, which is nice but excessive. He wants to carry babies and wipe their noses and cuddle them. He exhausts me and makes my ears bleed!!!

I have given him SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much attention but I can't keep it up anymore. He's been with me a few months now. I'm not terming him, he's really a terrific help. Guess I'm just venting.

Are some kids just more attention seeking than others? Does overly clingy always mean that he's not getting enough attention from parents at home or is that just stereotype?

What I would give for 30min. of silence!!!

Where was he before your daycare?

I say this because I have an almost 4 year old here that is JUST like that. Only it is more annoying and less helpful LOL but she has never gone to daycare before and is used to A LOT of interaction at home because she is the only young child with about a half dozen teens and adults in the house. I try to direct her to activities and towards the kids but she is hugely undersocialized with other kids her age.

:::::: I was thinking the same. My last one like this was a change of life baby with 4 teen (ish) siblings at home.

mine is a second marriage baby. mom always tells me "she doesnt get one one attention at home, I dont know why she acts like this here" but doesnt seem to understand that just because she doesnt get a lot of attention at home, doesnt mean she knows what to do in a peer group. Actually I think that if they gave her more quality attention at home, she wouldnt be so needy everywhere else. Parents work, go to school, care for a relative that is going thru chemo and the teens have their own lives and this little one is sort of shuffled around and what not.

Mine are children who don't receive quality time. Their parents will take them out to eat after Preschool, let them watch a tv show, give them a bath, and then it's bedtime. They are starved for attention and do not care if it is negative or positive. Luckily, we have both genders working here so the attention deprived little boys leach on to a male and the attention deprived little girls leach on to a female.

He was at another home daycare. I have heard that it was less engaging but I don't know if that's true or not.

I have a 4 yr old boy like this, but after a year here he has gotten a lot better. He mostly plays with the kids now, instead of trying to engage me the entire time. But he still lacks some social skills like sharing & talking to his friends nicely, and has a hard time controlling his emotions. I can tell he is hugely undersocialized. He has a big sis who is a preteen and he is only with us 2 days a week.
