Do You Mention a Daycare Wish List?

This is my first year doing home daycare. When I worked in a center, many parents would leave gifts around the holiday. I honestly don't want gifts, I want things for my daycare,. So do you mention your wish list during the holiday season? Or do you not say anything?

I am really conflicted because I don't want to beg for items, but at the same time, I think the money would be better spent on something I can use with the dck. This will free up my funds to either buy more items or buy myself something.

    So what do you do?

I tried a Scholastic Book Club wishlist. It failed, miserably.

This is one of those subjects that has huge potential to backfire, so I just let it go.

I have had over 40 Christmas coffee mugs and "Babysitter" tree ornaments (to be fair, I also have never seen one that said child care provider). This is part of the job, I guess....::::::

It is also why I don't buy anything with Apples on it for my kids teachers.
    - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I know some providers do ask in a nice way. I never felt comfortable with it, though...mostly because I get very spoiled by my dc clients (no apple ornaments or mugs here! ) so I would be reluctant to give that up!::

About every 3-4 months I send home a wish-list of items for the daycare but none of it is for toys or equipment, just supplies such as empty toilet paperroll tubes, paper towel tubes, cotton balls, magazines, popsicle sticks, empty paper milk cartons etc.

At Christmas time instead of traditional gift giving, I always do a charity drive of some sort. Last year we collected cabon dioxide detectors for our local fire dept to donate to families in need. We have done collections for the food shelf, the family store (baby items) and the animal shelters.

I don't really but I probably wouldn't hesitate to post on my FB page when we are looking for something I need for the daycare - either a used donation or something I am willing to buy from someone secondhand.

For instance, when I needed a high chair I posted on my public fb page asking if anyone had one they were looking to get rid of or if they saw one at a garage sale if they would let me know. That page is for friends, family, dc parents, etc. so it isn't really asking my dc families for anything but I had 1 come in the following week saying they had one they didn't need and I was welcome to it.
