I ran across an ad on craigslist http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/bfs/3282262826.html about someone selling their family child care business. Since childcare licenses are not transferrable in California, how does a transaction like this work? Or has anyone done anything like this before, either on the buying end or the seller's end?
Buying/Selling daycare home business in CA?? Legal?

Although the license is not transferable, the business itself is. She can sell her home, equipment, etc. and encourage current clients to stay with the new provider/sale her client contracts.
The new owner would have to go through the process of relicensing the home in her name before taking over the actual license.
The current owner might have the buyer added to the current license - DOJ clearance IF the person is not already cleared for another FCCH, ped. cpr/first aid, etc. so the new owner/provider can work in the program/run the program, while she goes through the licensing process.
Hope that makes sense.....- Flag

A business is supposed to make you money, so why can't she afford it anymore? The whole idea of "give me a bunch of money for a business that's tanking financially" is crazy!!!!
May be legal, but I'd doubt she's going to get any bites if it hasn't been lucrative for even her.- Flag
