Where Would The Media Get Info On Childcare Rates?

Last night on our local news it said our state has the highest childcare rates on average for the nation! I didn't know if I should be :: but I know I was totally .

Our state doesn't even pay $500 a month for an infant for in home and maybe that amount in a center. An in home chilcare only get $425 for a preschooler (from the state). The news's amounts were an average of $11,000 for an infant and $8,000for a child for childcare. (for our state).

I really, really would like to know where they received this information as I might just might average around $5,000 a year for a full-time child and I'm at the upper end for price in my area.

I know what some of you ladies make so that is why it confused me on how we could be on average the highest in the nation.

Urban areas will normally average much higher than rural areas. Then when it is averaged for the state. it looks like it is all of the state.

Usually they get the infor from a survey taken by the state used to set rates.

It will have nothing to do with what the state pays wish Missouri paid $500
    It:: will wait

I know in our area most people set their rates for what the state pays so they would all be getting paid under $500 a month.

One provider in our area is like $300 for full-time care! If you break down my rate it comes out to like $2.50 an hour. Usually anyone that does $3.00 an hour here doesn't even stay in business very long.

      I was just very surprised-

I'd be tempted to write a letter to the media breaking it down for them...if I could find the time with all these kids here!!::

$11,000 paid or claimed? Many folks take the per child credit since it is more than what they actually paid.

The average PAID here is also $5000 yr for 2500 hours of care. $2 an hour.

I am also fed up with hearing people complain about how expensive childcare is. What needs to be pointed out is that HAVING CHILDREN is expensive.

I am constantly reading articles about political groups pushing to make the govt. fund more and more. I am not talking low income, I am talking for all working professionals. Please explain to me why this is a govt. issue? When did having childcare become a basic right?

          example: http://policyblog.usa.childcareaware...of-child-care/

          1. they want to pay less
          2. want us to do more
          3. feel they are somehow entitled to it

I just don't get it. WE are working parents too!! The newest article goes on and on about how childcare rates keep rising even as the economy stays weak. It is because our food, power, fuel and supply costs have gone up. What about a study to show how many childcare providers are low income?
