    Hand Sanitizer And Kids

There has been at least one kid sick since school started. This latest virus hit everyone really hard (some had strept, some didn't).

I have been washing and spraying everything down in an effort to stop the illnesses. It doesn't seem to be helping.

I thought about having everyone (including family members) use hand sanitizer as they walk through the door. All of my parents were good about it this morning. I had the parents use hand sanitizer on the older kids. I washed the babies' hands with antibacterial soap right away.

At what age do you use hand sanitizer on the kids? I plan on the older kids using it once daily when they come in the AM and when they come in from school.

I use hand sanitizer with all the kids but ONLY if there is no water/soap available so in other words ONLY when we are away from the house.

Hand sanitizer is the reason why there are so many reisstnat germs out there now days and honestly the best way to prevent the spread of illness/germs is handwashing. Hand sanitizer is only a product that should be used if there is no other option available.

I do keep a pump bottle near my sign in/out sheet but just because. I really don't think it contributes to our overall good health though.

I have always asked this of all my families. Kids take off shoes and go wash hands immediately. Parents use hand sanitizer. I think it's age dependent, but when they are not putting their hands into their mouths at all. I have a two year old that I use it on, and a 3 1/2 year old that I don't.

All the daycare kids take off thier shoes and wash their hands when we com in the house, I raley have to remind them as most of the time when we come in the house it is snack time. I would never use hand sanatizer on a child under the age of 8 there have been several sases of children eating it and then being hospitalized because of it.

I use to use it ALL the time but our elementary school has even banned it because of to many kids licking their hands after it or something.

75% of my kids are now oral children and constantly have hands, fingers, thumbs, in their mouths. We are talking an older group of kids too=3 to almost 5 year olds!

I never had this problem before with so many oral kids so that was another reason I used alot.

hmm maybe your over sanitizing. I rarely have sick kids and when I do I don't go over board with the cleaning. I also would not be putting the hand saniziter on children (only when there is nothing to wash hands with)

I just wanted to share this in case anyone wants to try to use triclosan free sanitizer. This is an article on triclosan and products that contain it. There are several articles about this online so feel free to do your own research.

I suggest also reading the comments at the bottom if you can find time.
