    Bus Stop

I have a 7 year old DCG who get off the bus here most days and dad picks up anywhere from 5min to 2 hours later--his schedule varies.
Our bus stop is at the bottom of our driveway and someone MUST be present for the driver to let the kids of the bus.
I'm taking a couple days off and dad wants daughter to ride the bus here and says he will meet the bus each day. He wants her to ride here instead of home because the bus ride here is longer than the bus ride home thus giving dad a few extra minutes. I won't be here at all one day and the other day I'll be in bed recovering so I certainly won't be able to walk to the bus stop if he's late for some reason.
I don't see a problem with it but it doesn't "feel" right either, like I'm overlooking something. Opinions?

What if he is late? Does she just stand out there and wait for him? Will the bus just stay there until someone meets it?

If the driver will keep her on and just leave, I would say yes, and leave it in the hands of the driver and dad. If the driver will let her off and leave her standing, I would say no.

Honestly I would say no. If you are off and not working then you shouldn't be responsible for ANYONE or anything daycare related.

As Angelsj said, what if DCD is late? You would then have to **** up the slack and I don't think that is fair. Also what happens if she gets off the bus at your house and then falls and gets hurt in the driveway....who is responsible then?

I just think if you are closed, you should be closed for EVERYONE. Will you have other parents who would want "special" favors the next time you have a day off that doesn't work for them?

I think the feeling that you are overlooking something is your brain telling you to just say no to the whole scenario since you are closed and NOT working....kwim?

I wouldn't really worry about it.
Tell the bus driver what's going on. If he is late its not your problem. Likely the bus will take her back to the bus company and call parents.

I have done it in the past no problem - its always just been easier for the child/driver to have the normal routine than for the child to be dropped elsewhere, etc. You have no responsibility for it, you are closed and won't be there - the bus stop just happens to be at the end of your driveway. I'd treat it no different than if the bus stop was a block away.

I talked to the bus driver today and he said if no one is there to meet the bus then child rides the rest of the route and then back to bus garage and parents are contacted. I let him know that I would be closed for the days off and that dad would be doing pick-ups just to give him a heads up.

I would say to do this. I would say that unless the bus is dropping off on you private property, you can't tell the DCD that he cant pick up the child at a public bus stop that his daughter uses.

I think that this would work best, exactly what you did. Also, don't let DCD know you will be home and don't worry about it, you are closed and it is not your problem, it;s dads

Just keep in mind that if the Dad is late and they drive off with the child, there's a very good chance that Dad will be banging on your door assuming that you took the child in. Will you be up to answering the door?

I don't know what to tell you. It sounds like he's going to do it so hopefully he'll be on time and all will work out fine. Just let him know that you won't be opening the door for anyone.
